Quest for Greatness
James & John wanted to have authority with Jesus, so they asked him. Jesus told the two that they didn’t know what they were asking. The rest of the group became indignant with James and John. I would probaly guess they were upset at them because they wanted to ask Jesus the same question. How many times do we get upset at someone because they spoke up first? Jesus again explained that in order to be great in the Kingdom you had to be a servant.

I really love this part of the bible. Leadership is about serving. The higher up we are, the more we need to serve. Just like…the more we ask for, the more we get on our plate.
I feel that in order to truly fill Jesus’ shoes (i.e. to sit up there equally next to Jesus), James and John would need to follow him to the cross as well (i.e. to serve his people all the way to the max). So, the two really do not know what they are asking.
Oops…what I mean with my first comment is that we have to be a servant first and foremost…leadership sometimes automatically comes with the territory.
