  • I was visiting Kham’s xanga site and noticed her favorite food was papaya salad.  That brought back memories of when I was in the Philippines.  I went to Manilla with a friend to a small cafe.  I’ll never forget the papaya salad.  We then went to his home town on a bus.  (That was an experience.) When we arrived there he knocked a coconut off a tree and we had coconut.  I watched the caribou working in the rice fields behind his house.  Wonderful memories.

What memories do you have that involved traveling?

  • Going to the World Expo on Montreal in 1967. Lots of cool old buildings.

  • Both my husband and I, although at separte times in our respective lives, thought the Rocky Mountains have been our most awesome and breathtaking experience.  Yes, for both of us, it took our breath away.  Viewing them is a humbling experience….to think that God created such majesty and gave us eyes to see and the grey matter to recognize His creation and give Him greater honor and glory for it…for all of it!!  Praise the good Lord now and forever, Amen!

  • putting a Jays potato chip box on my head.   (my nickname is Jay)

  • How interesting…never heard of papaya salad.  Memories for me is when I lived in Korea with my family and my cousin Eun-Jung and I would go down the markets and catch black bumble bees in plastic bags, then pinch their stingers out so they could crawl around in our hands.  LOL.  That was a day of fun for us.

With the contradiction…why would it mean two completely different things?  Where are they trying to go with it?  Is it going to fall on the children or are they responsible for their own actions? Why would it be necessary to say both?  Personally I believe every individual is only responsible for their own actions.

  • most of my trips were taken with my parents….i’ve only had a few where i was the parent.  so i enjoy watching my kids faces as they see new things.  i just don’t like the driving as i tend to get car sick….something the kids got from me too….not good.

  • I was in a the bathroom on the train in Europe. The door opened wide to my horror! As everyone was passing they all lookesd in,I waved,I could not get up since my pants were down, thank God for long shirts, the man reached in and pressed the button to close the door,it was like an elevator door ….in the front of the train too!

    whats up?

  • A life-changing travel memory for me was when I volunteered to teach one summer in a tiny village in Bali, Indonesia.  Every night, I was invited to eat dinner with one of the families in the village.  Almost everything I ate was grown/raised by the family who prepared the meal–rice, chicken, taro, mango.   I was saddened to discover that most of the families in the village could not afford to put their children in school, because the tuition was too expensive –3 dollars per month.  This trip helped me realize that as part of the human race, I have a moral responsibitlity to take care of the children who are already suffering in this world before I start having my own.  I know that not a lot of people feel the same way, and I understand that.  But there are so many people out there in the world, and right here in our own home town, who we can help by investing our energy, time, resources, and money.

  • sounds good.

  • thanks for the birthday wishes.

I remember… traveling on Choir tour to Malibu and to Pepperdine.  It was wonderful.. like a kodak moment that you don’t want to give up.

  • hmmm yummy. I like the papaya salad in Bankok, though it was a bit spicy. It was really nice, with peanuts.

  • Taking the Boy Scout (three of them being my sons) to Washington DC on Amtrac… Great trip…

    Al_son and I going to Maui… twice… Feb. 2000 & Feb. 2006. A wonderful place!

  • RYC: It’s too soon to tell yet, but my guess is thyat Charlie (the cat) and Maddie (the dog) will be good friends in a few months’ time. =)

  • Well, last year on the band trip to Chicago, I made many interesting memories.  My one of favorite memories was during the Thanksgiving parade.  It was -15 degrees and all we had on were our band uniforms.  Before we started the parade, the entire band (about 95 people) found a wall of a building and created a gigantic warming blob.  It was a classic.  Oh yes, and the bus.  When you have nothing to do but sit with your friends for 10 hours, you get to see and listen to some pretty funny stuff!  Haha

When I get out of high school and or college, I want to see the world.  It’s always been a dream of mine to backpack across Italy and France.  But another place I would love to see is the African country of Cameroon.  My step-uncle and his family lived over there for 8 years and they worked as missionaries.  I think that it would be amazing to see God work in a completly different enviroment.

  • Thank you for your response, Pastor Randy.  Six hours with such wee little ones and such a response!!!  Wow!  Isn’t it wonderful you offer yourself as a tool in God’s hand?  And how enriched you become by the “giving”.  It’s so true,  when you empty yourself out, for His sake, how He wonderously continues to fill you up with His love.  God is so good, all the time.

  • thank you for your posts about my birds.  yes they talk and squak and whistle and are noisey and very entertaining.

  • About the most memorable trip was when I was on my college’s summer youth camp team.   Our first camp was in Nebraska, our second, Alaska.   So we get up bright and early one morning (the last time we saw a sunset for 10 days was the night before) and drive around 6 hours to the airport.  Hop onto our first plane.  Of course the logical direction to Alaska from Nebraska is Texas.  We arrive in Texas and sprint to the next connection (90% on the opposite end of the LARGE terminal).  We get on our plane, get off the ground, and then the cabin starts filling up with smoke.   Apparently one of the A/C units malfunctions.   So they turn off all the air as we circle to land and get the plane fixed.

This is all while one of my teammates is experiencing his first time on an airplane!

We fly into Washington state, past Mount Ranier, which is truly one of the most spectacular sites to fly by coming or going.

The trip back was fairly uneventful, minus the drunk lady that passed out asleep on my person.  At least she didn’t throw up…
