A man was arrested and charged with having sexual misconduct with his foster child. He hasn’t gone to court yet, but his picture is all over the TV. My question is this: Should there be a law that says the media can not publish information until someone has been convicted?
Did you know that there are 206 bones in the adult human body and there are 300 in children (as they grow some of the bones fuse together)? This will mess with your mind in a space time continuum:
The next sentence is true but you must not believe it.
The previous sentence was false

Yup… it messed wih my mind… It’s much to early for that. lol
As for the media thing… I do think they should wait until after a conviction, that won’t happen though.
Have a great day. Ang
Yes, someone should be innocent until proven guilty…….and that goes for “In the Court of Public opinion” as well as a REAL courtroom! Hopefully the guy is INNOCENT and he can sue the pants off the TV station for smearing his name. If I were innocent and slandered like that, I would not hesitate to sue. TV stations “run” with stuff like this to get RATINGS which = MONEY to them, you have to show them they can LOSE money if they act irresponsibly, it’s the only “language” they know.
There are always exception and I’m sure there are some situations where that law would be bad. However, if the man is inocent his life will still be ruined due to the media. I vote yes for a law! Unfortunately theres that whole freedom of press crap that gets misused.
That would cut out about 85 to 90 % of the news, wouldn’t it.
Good mind teaser! That’s true about the 300 bones in children, but then again children under the age of four do not have kneecaps. So how do they count up to 300… minus the kneecaps or WITH the kneecaps?
Yes (keep the names protected until proven guilty)– just look what happened to the innocent lacrosse players at Duke. Three million dollars later, and their lives are marked forevermore.
I do think that the identity should be protected until after conviction… on the other hand, one of the reasons they publicize this is so that if there are other victims, they may come forward and make it easier to get a conviction… I also think that guys who get caught peeing on the side of the road are not sex offenders, though the law here in CT says they are…same thing for teens who get caught having sex with a girl their own age… they should not have to register as a sex offender for the rest of their lives!
you know that one is a double edged. It is a fine line and hard to really decide at least for me. On one hand it is freedom of speech not to mention if it is someone that has been around your family wouldn’t you want to know they have been accused so you could speak with your kids and make sure they were not bothered by this person. Then again it isn’t fair at all if the person is falsely accused. it ruins them and their relationships even when they are cleared. Its a hard one I see both sides, still I’d rather know they have been accused for my kids safety.
I have mixed feelings about that. Going to watch your readers’ comments.
that is why i have a manger
That’s a lot of bones!! RYC: That’s great you have so many children and such a wide age range. We will definately be learning with our first here in a few months!! I can’t wait to experience being a mom.
yes it is, but he is gone to war…
Hmmm….Good question….I’m thinking yes they should wait, but that isn’t very realistic in today’s society. It would just be a shame to completely ruin someone’s life if they are innocent of the crime. Although it would be totally different if the situation was closer to home I’d imagine. If my next door neighbor was thought to be some crazy ax murderer I would like to know about it before it was too late, you know?
Hugs!
hmmm, there isnt because courts dont allow juries to look at newspapers or anything.
it is wrong though, we treat it as guilty until proven otherwise…
The media will post anything that’ll sell, anything thats interesting.
So I haven’t commented on here in a LONG time. about your question… well – it would be good if he media didn’t publish anything until it was actually confirmed… however its the media. and like the last girl who posted said – sadly – the media will publish anything that will sell.
Interesting bone facts. hehe!
I’m not sure where I stand on that……wait till conviction, maybe? Otherwise an innocent life may be ruined – although if theres overwhelming evidence and the guys gonna get off on a technicality then the world has a right to know what is roaming its streets!
Have a great day!
by the way, I tagged you – if you have time!
I think they should wait. Innocent people get accused of things they didn’t do. If it’s true, there will be time to tell about it after the trial.
Hey, I hope you and your family had a great weekend, my friend! And hope your week is wonderful!
Hugs to everyone at your house!
Interesting on the number of bones for kids compared to adults. I know kids have several extra really sharp bones in their elbows. They always are stabbing me when they are around.
Am enjoying your posts !
