More INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT ANTS
If a man could run as fast for his size as an ant can, he could run as fast as a racehorse.
Ants can lift 20 times their own body weight.
With their combined weight greater than the combined weight of all humans, ants are the most numerous type of animal.
An ant brain has about 250 000 brain cells. A human brain has 10,000 million so a colony of 40,000 ants has collectively the same size brain as a human. Ant brains are largest amongst insects. An ant’s brain may have the same processing power as a Macintosh II computer. Thousands of years ago, King Solomon wrote: “Go to the ant, consider its ways and be wise”.
The average life expectancy of an ant is 45-60 days.
Adult ants cannot chew and swallow solid food. They rely on juice which they squeeze from pieces of food.
I would call this a “bad day”:
DirecTV installer’s comment sets off dramaSAVAGE, Minn. (UPI) — A Minnesota woman is suing police who forced her to the ground and handcuffed her after a DirecTV dispatcher told police an installer was being held hostage.
“These are regular people. She’s a schoolteacher. … You shouldn’t have SWAT teams coming after someone if they know there’s not a crisis,” Marc Kurzman, a lawyer for Julie and Steven Pyle of Savage, Minn., told the St. Paul (Minn.) Pioneer Press.
The Pyles are seeking more than $75,000 in damages in a federal civil rights lawsuit against DirecTV, Savage police and Scott County enforcement dispatchers.
The Pioneer Press reported that a DirectTV installer working at the Pyles’ home told a dispatcher he was “being held hostage” and the dispatcher called police. Two installers then spoke to police and said there’s been a misunderstanding and that they’d left the house.
Police went to their home, anyway, called Julie Pyle out and handcuffed her at gunpoint before searching the home, the lawsuit alleges.
Julie Pyle felt bad the job was taking the installers so long, so she baked them cookies, the lawsuit said.

Becky has a fascination with ants, and will sit outside ans watch them crawling across the ground for ages…..and then just as quickly she decides shes had enough, and stands up, stands on one of them, and toddles off to the next thing!
wow that is a bad day !!!!!
Oh Ouch on that last one…
Yes. Ants are amazing… I still don’t like them. ang
That DirecTV incident is absolutely hilarious!
well, you can’t get mad at the police since they don’t know what was in progress. Notice how I used progress like police talk.
Geez. That’ll teach her to cast her cookies before the DirecTV guys.
Interesting ant facts… I’d be more apt to beat the pants off the DirecTv guys. Criminy.
Well, at least the Pyle’s will have millions of DirectTV dollars to pay their future cable bills.
Idiot installers. And police.
I am an Aunt….
I have always found ants to be some pretty remarkable little critters. Thanks for the tidbits and have a great day!
When I was little I used to pick up ants and play with them. I don’t any more, because my fingers are too big and i would only hurt them.
kewl ant facts. Who knew?
I know of a couple of contractors for AT&T I would LOVE to hold hostage. Namely the ones that knocked down our retaining wall under the side yard fence, the ones that left an unmarked hole in the middle of the street the week between Christmas & new year’s while all of the kids that like to bike and skate down our hill were home from school & also the ones that helped themselves to our gas trimmer & leaf blower from our shed….
I hate ants especially the red, big ones, they’re bite are itchy and painful.
Have a pleasant day!!
Annika
Hmm….some people I know have had “science experiments” in their refrigerators for that long!
Ants are cool.
An ant ain’t going to live that long if I catch it in my house….
