Parenting Skills
A little boy sticks has his hand stuck in an expensive vase. The parents try and try to get his hand out without success. After an hour the parents conclude the only way his hand is coming out is by breaking the vase. With the broken vase now on the floor, the boys hand freed, the parents discover the reason for the stuck hand. The boy was holding onto a penny.
What’s the lesson here? If the parents were attentive and talked to the boy, maybe they would of found out the reason. I’m sure in this case the boy would of gladly taken 10 pennies and released the 1 penny.Talk to your children and find out what’s below the surface.

how very true this is! often we assume our children are thinking or feeling a certain way, when in reality it is the exact opposite! so many problems could be solved by simply talking to our children, and even more importantly…but listening to what they have to say!
I really liked that story, it’s so true. Assuming doesn’t do anyone any favours.
There’s so much beneath the surface sometimes…
Good advice.
that goes for your grown kids also. My son said,”now isn’t a good time’. then I wonder should I ask or give him his privacy and hope he tells me or do I really want to know if it means trouble.
That goes for patients and nurses too. Gotta listen to each other and hear what the other one is saying.
I saw that coming!
Great advice!
Obviously you don’t know my children!
Try it now. I thought I added you to my protective list, and I didn’t. Sorry…
I don’t know … some of the kids I know would love all the attention no matter how many pennies were offered!!
Very good message
such a simple thought with such a profound meaning. we as children of God sometimes hold on to frivolous things as well, that have captivated our interests, when all the while, God is waiting for us to loosen our grip so he can hold our hand again. thank you for this thought provoking post.
Excellent example of a profound truth. Thanks for sharing!
