Music
“But now bring me a musician.’ Then it happened, when the musician played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him. And he said, ‘Thus says the LORD..” - 2 Kings 3:15 16 NKJV
1 Timothy 2:2 NASB
Why does music play such an important role in our lives? There is growing evidence that music has many emotional, physical, physiological, mental, and even spiritual benefits.
Music can play a role in our life. Consider the case of Elisha. He had been requested to provide a word from God. He asked them to bring him a musician, and when the music was played, “the hand of the LORD came upon him.”
We see another impact of music in the way it soothed Saul’s tortured soul: “Whenever the spirit from God was upon Saul, that David would take a harp and play it with his hand. Then Saul would become refreshed and well, and the distressing spirit would depart from him” (1 Samuel 16:23).
Today, remember that God has given you the gift of music, but it isn’t just something for enjoyment or entertainment. Let Him use music to calm your spirit, inspire you, and draw you closer to Him. Look for ways to allow music to provide an environment in which He can speak to you. Lift your voice in praise and worship with “psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:19).
What part does music play in your life?

Music is a wonderful gift. Good post.
I am so glad that He said, “Make a joyful noise.” I can so do that.
Last week was the Mass for 8th graders, where they do many of the readings and help out with greeting, collecting and such… we sit together as a group… which left hubby across the church from me… he said he looked over and I looked like I was having fun… I was… alll the music picked was my favorite inspirational stuff… hubby said my face was lit up and I believe him… some songs just fill my soul with so much jy and hope!
I like music and the bassett and I sing amazing grace everyday and I almost have a 4 stanza’s memoried.
Im deaf so I appreciate the gift of music even MORE. I am literally profoundly, completely, stone DEAF. No residual hearing left from when I was sick with spinal meningitis. I don’t even remember hearing things. I agree music is a wonderful gift and a blessing to all of us. I am SO blessed to have the momma who raised me with NO limitations! She showed me that I could still enjoy music regardless of my hearing loss. I know too many deaf people who go “yuck, I don’t care for music anyway, whats the point, I can’t hear!” ya know? They’re MISSING out on a beautiful thing! We just have to experience it differently.
Hehe. Kowpatty’s comment made me giggle
Without music, I’d fall asleep at work. Really.
music has always played an important part in my life.. all during junior high school and high school i was a member of the marching band.. and then after i gave my heart and life to Jesus, it just seemed like music was one of the best and most consistent ways i would be blessed…
As I was growing up, my dad listened to barber shop quartets and Johnny Cash, so to this day I have an appreciation for 4 part harmony. Raised in the Church of Christ, we sing a capella and I love the human voice when it doesn’t have to compete with a musical instrument. I love all types of music and have assigned certain types to certain moods or activities. I love to clean the house while a musical is on the the background – especially Little Shop of Horrors. I get a lot of cleaning done while I sing along!
I was asked this question once while interviewing… The music we listen too should be music that draws us closer to our Creator, each person has their own taste in music much like they do in foods. We all don’t like the same style of music, but that doesn’t mean we should condemn that which we don’t like while proclaiming our likes to be the only style permitted.
I”m a music major. It’s what I know best and it is what I do.
i have loved music ever since i can remember. as i became closer to God, the less i liked a lot of the secular music that doesn’t edify him. i prefer music that lifts him up or helps to create an atmosphere of worship not exalting man’s talent rather exalting the Great I Am
Music is so soothing and it helps with your emotions. I have always loved music. I love to sing too especially slow moving praise music, it makes me feel closer to God. I also like different kinds of music, jazz, blues and classical.
GOOD music makes my spirit happy.
It is the sounds that bring so much joy.
God is a music Man. He invented it.
Have A Happy Mid Day WeekDay!

That is a wonderful post! When my fiancee broke up with me last week, I immediately went home and turned on the Christian station. Music reminds me all day that God is there for me no matter how difficult things may be. Thank God for music!
