  • Mysterious 1st Daughter

In an age before TV, when the public might not instantly recognize a presidential child on the street, the Wilson girls took malicious delight in testing public opinion for themselves.  Margaret, the firstborn, once instigated a sightseeing tour of Washington, with the sisters disguised as “hicks” from out of town.  They waited in line, bought their tickets, and proceeded to ask inane questions of the tour guide.  Margaret implored the guide to take them into the White House.  They wanted to see the living quarters, where the Wilson girls actually slept.  The exasperated guide patiently explained that it could not be done and patronized them with his own stories of the 1st family.  Later, upstairs alone the Wilson girls convulsed with laughter.

What childhood pranks did you do?

    Geese enjoy racing alongside car

HANCOCK, Minn. (UPI) — It’s a bird; it’s a plane; no, it’s a car with a pair of Canada geese flying along side as it cruises along a private grass runway.

The adult geese — Apollo and Kennedy — were raised from day-old goslings by Mary Jo and Marvin Brown of Hancock, Minn.

The geese apparently like to go, go, go and the lawnmower wasn’t fast enough to feed their need for what the Browns call “goose games,” the Star Tribune in Minneapolis reported Monday.

So Apollo and Kennedy flap their wings alongside the couple’s Lincoln Town Car as it tools up and down their half-mile-long grass airstrip. Optimum speed: 34 miles per hour.

  • Both stories brought a smile to my face!  Thanks for sharing!

Childhood pranks?  I was probably more of a spoiler unintentionally than anything.  I’d happen in at the right moment and throw a kink in the prank.  None that I specifically remember at this moment, but I know I got a lot of laughs out of it (again, unintentional).

  • One time at a church pot luck I put a spoon with a hole in it in the sugar bowl. Not to bad for a pk?

  • I wasnt much of a prankster when I was little, although, My step-grandma did decide one day, that she WOULDNT EVER take my brother and I to dinner TOGETHER with her alone….She got up for a trip to the buffet, and came back to sit down in her chair…full of strawberries….she was even MORE mad when she discovered strawberries and grapes in her DRINK!!! :)

The second story reminds me of the movie “fly away home” I think me and the girls will watch that tonight as a “settle down” type movie.

RYC: I had a SMALL helping of chicken and noodles for thanksgiving dinner, since that small helping, id been DIEING for more!! So..I made some :) I used a whole chicken and LOOOOOOTS of noodles, and…theres none left ;) Of course, I shared with the other people in the house too but I didnt skimp on my portion :)

  • Pranks:  When I was a teenager, my girlfriend and I went down to the Marine Recruiters’ Office. We walked in, and I said to the marines, “I see you have a sign outside that says, ‘We Build Men’.  I would like one 6 feet tall, brown hair, blue eyes…”

  • Did I mention…white pants?

  • The Wilson one is so funny! (although that would never happen these days, and if you wonder why, anyone remember that one episode of The West Wing where the 1st daughter was kidnapped?)

  • my gosh those are some fast geese!  whew!!!!  childhood pranks?  well, i have been known to “tp” a house or two wayyyyyyyyy back in the day…

  • currently i am in korea, seoul :)

  • I didn’t do it but I was an accomplice to the fact. My mother hated lizards. One day when we knew she was on her way home from work, my brothers put a rubber lizard between the screen door knowing she would see it when she opened the door. So we hid close to the door when we saw her coming. She opened the door and all we could hear was her screaming and her feet running around to the back door. We were rolling in the floor laughing, it was hilarious, but my mother didn’t think so. She whipped all 4 of us but it was worth the whipping. She laughs about it today.
