  • Behaviorist Solution

Joe has been seeing a psychoanalyst for four years for treatment of the fear that he had monsters under his bed.

It had been years since he had gotten a good night’s sleep. Furthermore, his progress was very poor, and he knew it. So, one day he stops seeing the psychoanalyst and decides to try something different.

A few weeks later, Joe’s former psychoanalyst meets his old client in the supermarket, and is surprised to find him looking well-rested, energetic, and cheerful.

“Doc!” Joe says, “It’s amazing! I’m cured!”

“That’s great news!” the psychoanalyst says. “You seem to be doing much better. How?”

“I went to see another doctor,” Joe says enthusiastically, “and he cured me in just ONE session!”

    “One?!” the psychoanalyst asks incredulously.

“Yeah,” continues Joe, “my new doctor is a behaviorist.”

“A behaviorist?” the psychoanalyst asks. “How did he cure you in one session?”

“Oh, easy,” says Joe. “He told me to cut the legs off of my bed.”

I read an interesting statistic this past week.  There are 91 million children in the US.  61 % of those children are in a Mom/Dad family.    To me that’s alarming.

  • Some of those kids are in a one parent family due to death.  As a widow with six kids, I resented (still do) my family being lumped into that mix.  My kids were quick to point out that their dad didn’t leave by choice.  He died!

  • That IS an alarming stat, but you know what? I honestly thought the number would have been HIGHER than that. How does THAT stat compare to 10, 20, 30 years ago, I wonder? NOT favorably, I’d wager!!!!!

  • I am betting that in that 61% are loads of kids dealing with step issues….. yes, it is alarming but I agree with kowpatty….it is not always by choice and statistics can be misleading….

  • Well I’m not having kids so I’m not contributing to the problem lol… That’s the best I can do. I’m not getting married or reproducing.

  • That is alarming.

I would hav told him to put his matress on the floor too! lol

  • I believe it and don’t get down on the mom’s who are raising them by themselves.  I always got child support and medical insurance and dental on my sons but there are alot of mom’s who don’t.  The men need to stand up and be fathers to their offspring.

  • that is scary statistic for sure.

    have a super duper saturday!

  • Some good metaphores could be placed with this one.

    Mark 9:47 (NIV)

And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,

  • Interesting juxtoposition, one funny story and a sad stat!! hmmm

  • haha thats one way to cure it. I cured the girls of the monster thing with febreeze…aparently they dont know the difference between febreeze and monster spray. Keeps away the monsters, AND keeps the closets and under the beds smelling fresh and clean!

  • well i am not in a mom and dad family

i am in a mom and a step dad family

  • Statistics are so sad these days…

  • I believe it was Mark Twain who said “There are three types of lies men tell: lies, damned lies and statistics.”

Do you have a source for that statistic?

  • I love the joke.

I’d be surprised if the number is really that high.

  • wonder out of that 61% how many are actually married
