    *Senior Ailments*

A group of senior citizens were sitting around talking about their ailments: "My arms are so weak I can hardly hold this cup of coffee," said one.

"Yes, I know. My cataracts are so bad I can't even see my coffee," replied another.

"I can't turn my head because of the arthritis in my neck," said a third, to which several nodded weakly in agreement.

"My blood pressure pills make me dizzy," another went on.

"I guess that's the price we pay for getting old," winced an old man as he shook his head.

Then there was a short moment of silence...

"Well, it's not that bad," said one woman cheerfully. "At least we can still drive!"

  • Freedom

What does it mean to be free? To English Puritans in the 17th century, freedom meant serving God without interference. To Africans sold into slavery, freedom meant being released from bondage.

To the 18th century American colonists, freedom meant charting their own course as a nation. Colonial leader, Patrick Henry, whose father came to America from Scotland, believed that freedom was based on a commitment to Christianity and was possible only when based "on the Gospel of Jesus Christ."

Yet, to many, freedom simply meant license. In his 1859 book, Liberty, John Stuart Mill expressed an opinion felt by many modern men and women: "The only freedom which deserves the name is that of pursuing our own good in our own way."

So, what is true freedom? The Bible says we can experience ultimate freedom because Jesus died for us on the Cross. Because of His precious blood, we truly can be "free indeed"-not just politically free, but free from sickness and sin. Whatever chains of bondage we may feel, we must realize that Jesus offers to set us free.

Today, God wants you to experience real freedom-freedom from fear and worry, burdens and anxiety, guilt and torment. But you'll never find this freedom in a relationship, job, or political philosophy. Nor does it come simply by making more money or acquiring more things.

Real freedom comes only when you trust in Jesus and no longer are a "slave of sin." Don't let sin keep you a prisoner. When you confess and repent of your sins, Jesus promises to make you "free indeed"! Rejoice, and let Him take away your worries and burdens!

  • The sky was smokey yesterday because of the Canadian fire.  It really brought down the tempature.

We took the kids to the Duck Pond last night for Whiz Kid's.  We had about 27 children.  It was fun.

We're planning on going to a farm in Nebraska for a huge 4th celebration.  I suspect there will be about 70-80 people there.

Kim is going to Sioux Falls today in order to get some more wedding supplies.

House of Hope - (our other house) We worked more on the remodeling on Tuesday night.  We now have to wait for the electrian to wire it.  We're making the bedrooms bigger and adding a bathroom in the basement.  We had to tear up the cement floor & the front yard for all new plumbing.  The house should be ready for another 100 years or until Jesus returns -hopefully the latter.

I'm preparing to go to another camp next Friday.  It's for ages 4-8.  We've got a good amount going so we may have to take the bus.

I'm thinking about being a guide at a camp in September.  The camp is for kids who has lost a loved one to death.

    The summer progresses forward. -lol

  • Proverbs

I've been studying Proverbs lately. Proverbs 1:29-31 speaks of people that don't listen to the counsel of God.  When they don't follow instruction they eat the fruit of their own doings.  I'm amazed at all the people I talk to that don't follow God's counsel and then blame Him for the fruit that comes of it.  What kind of fruit are you producing?

We're going to our adopted daughters 18 birthday this Saturday.  It'll be great.  (Brooke is going to live with her biological birth Mom.)   Here's a quote that she said to a guy (I'm not sure if she liked him or not.) "You're like the friend I never had." - lol

Here is today's PearlyGates item - ”Flying Star”

It seems that a young man volunteered for military service during World War II.

He had such a high aptitude for aviation that he was sent right to Pensacola skipping boot camp. The very first day at Pensacola he solos and is the best flier on the base. All they could do was give him his gold wings and assign him immediately to an aircraft carrier in the Pacific.

On his first day aboard he took off and single-handedly shot down 6 Japanese Zeroes. Then climbing up to 20,000 ft. he found 9 more Japanese planes and shot them all down, too. Noting that his fuel was getting low, he descended, circled the carrier and came in for a perfect landing on the deck. He threw back the canopy, climbed out and jogged over to the captain.

Saluting smartly he said, "Well sir, how did I do on my very first day?"

The captain turned around, bowed, and replied, "Ahh soo, you only make one velly impoltant mistake!"

    SN 1006 Supernova Remnant (Hubble)

A delicate ribbon of gas floats eerily in our galaxy. A contrail from an alien spaceship? A jet from a black-hole? Actually this image, taken by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope, is a very thin section of a supernova remnant caused by a stellar explosion that occurred more than 1,000 years ago.
