My oldest daughter is married now. It was a great day.
We’re going to my Grandmother’s 96th birthday party today.
Holiness
“The house, while it was being built, was built of stone prepared at the quarry, and there was neither hammer nor axe nor any iron tool heard in the house while it was being built.” - 1 Kings 6:7 NASB
God is holy, perfectly pure. The Bible describes Him as “a consuming fire” (Deuteronomy 4:24). We are to come before Him with clean hands and a pure heart (Psalm 24:4). Israel itself was to be a “kingdom of priests and a holy nation” (Exodus 19:6), reflecting the holiness of its God.
This spirit of holiness and reverence was to pervade their attitude toward God and the things of God, including the temple. The prophet Habakkuk proclaimed, “The LORD is in His holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before Him” (Habakkuk 2:20).
We see this attitude among the men who built the temple. They wouldn’t even allow the normal noise and clutter associated with construction. With a spirit of reverence, they took time to prepare the stones “at the quarry.” This meant that when the temple was being built, there were no sounds of hammers or axes.
Today, many people have a casual attitude toward God. They’re quick to take His name in vain, curse Him, or defy His laws. Even some Christians don’t treat God with reverence for His holiness. But Paul would ask us to remember, “Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” If we’re conscious of God’s Presence in our lives, our entire attitude changes. We will “cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God” (2 Corinthians 7:1).
Today, humble yourself before Almighty God. Seek to be more sensitive to His holiness, every minute of the day. Worship Him. In everything you do and every word you say, remember that He is holy.

THE FINAL EXAM………..You teachers are going to love this one!!
At Penn State University, there were four sophomores taking chemistry and all of them had an ‘A’ so far. These four friends were so confident that, the weekend before finals, they decided to visit some friends and have a big party. They had a great time but, after all the hearty partying; they slept all day Sunday and didn’t make it back to Penn State until early Monday morning.
Rather than taking the final then, they decided that after the final they would explain to their professor why they missed it. They said that they visited friends but on the way back they had a flat tire. As a result, they missed the final. The professor agreed they could make up the final the next day. The guys were excited and relieved. They studied that night for the exam.
The next day the Professor placed them in separate rooms and gave them a test booklet. They quickly answered the first problem worth 5 points. Cool, they thought! Each one in separate rooms, thinking this was going to be easy… then they turned the page. On the second page was written…
For 95 points: Which tire? _________
We have Kid’s Krusade this weekend. It’ll be a lot of fun. Jubilee Gang – http://www.jubileegang.com/
How ironic that a fort named after a man born in Ulster, Northern Ireland, would inspire the American national anthem and become a powerful symbol in a conflict with his own native land.
When he was eighteen, James McHenry decided to emigrate from Northern Ireland to the New World, where he studied medicine. He served as an apprentice to America’s foremost physician, Dr. Benjamin Rush, who also encouraged him to support American independence.
McHenry went on to have a distinguished career. He served as a physician in the Revolutionary War, was a member of the Continental Congress, and signed the Constitution. Later, he was Secretary of War under Presidents George Washington and John Adams. Because of his faithful service, a fort in Baltimore was named after him. It was at Fort McHenry that the “Star-Spangled Banner” was written in 1812, and the song later became America’s national anthem.
McHenry was a strong Christian, and after his retirement from government he became president of the first Bible society in Baltimore. As he had throughout his life, he championed the Bible as the cornerstone of any successful nation and the foundation of a stable society. He argued that it was a book “fitted to every situation.” It alone could secure “order and peace, and to our courts of justice and constitutions of government, purity, stability, and usefulness.”
Today, some are trying to remove the Bible from public life and silence those who would declare its truths. More than ever, the world needs people who, like James McHenry, recognize that God’s Word must be the foundation of our lives. Make sure you know the Word. Stand boldly for the Christian faith. Don’t compromise or be silent.
Subtle and Crafty
“Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, ‘Indeed, has God said, “You shall not eat from any tree of the garden”?’” - Genesis 3:1 NASB
In C.S. Lewis’ classic book, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, one of the boys, Edmund, entered the kingdom of Narnia alone and encountered the White Witch. She used her magic to produce a wonderful-tasting drink. Edmund was impressed. When she asked what food he’d like, he requested Turkish Delight. She produced a fancy box with the very best he’d ever had.
As Edmund gorged himself, the witch pumped him for information about his brother and sisters. When he wanted more Turkish Delight, she promised to give him all he wanted…if he brought his siblings to her. Only later did he realize he had betrayed his brother and sisters because of manipulation and deception.
Lewis used this story to help us see how subtly Satan can deceive us. We see this when the serpent twisted God’s words and enticed Eve to eat the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Like Edmund looking at Turkish Delight, she saw only a tree that “was desirable to make one wise.” Satan promised only good things, and Eve believed his lies.
Every day, we see displays of Satan’s subtle deception all around us. As Paul said, “Satan disguises himself as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14). His ideas can seem so appealing! But the damage can be huge. This is why we must know our enemy!
Today, be on guard against the subtle deception of your enemy. He’s working day and night, looking for ways to deceive you! But God has given you what you need to resist him, to escape (1 Corinthians 10:13), and to be victorious. Be ready. Fight back!
