  • Rumors & Rumors of Rumors

In 2000, a college student published a fake press release suggesting that a particular company was restating its earnings. Within minutes, the stock fell, and the student made an enormous profit. But he soon was caught and served prison time.

Recently, someone posted the erroneous story that the CEO of a major company had a heart attack. As a result, the company’s stock declined 9% in just twelve minutes!

Such trickery is possible because so many of us are “gullible,” a word derived from gulls-birds which swallow anything tossed to them. Today, many people are gullible-ready to “swallow” rumors or gossip, and quick to believe carefully crafted slogans.

As Paul wrote, this makes us like “children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming” (Ephesians 4:14-15). In contrast, the Bible says God wants us to be stable, sure, and confident. The Psalmist tells us it’s possible to never be shaken, and we do not have to fear “evil tidings.”

How can we find this peace and security? By fearing the Lord, humbling ourselves before Him, delighting in His Word and hiding it in our hearts, and trusting in Him. The Bible promises that if we do these things, we will never be shaken. Our hearts will be steadfast, and we will not fear.

Today, don’t be gullible or allow your life to be shaken by rumors or the changing circumstances of the world. Trust in God. Commit your way to Him. Fill your life with His Word. Let Him give you stability, confidence, and joy!

  • Kurt Go Kurt – Win the Superbowl for Jesus!

  • Heir Force

We had a great Heir Force last night (teaching 5th & 6th graders).  Several months ago I asked the kids favorite things.  They forgot about it.  Last night we played, “Who is it?”  The kids loved the game.  I was trying to teach the kids that we are one body and we should encourage each other.  We did last night.  Well except the 2 girls who always fight.

-headed to Rapid City today.  Kim’s Dad had a heart attack.  He’s not in serious condition.  Also remember a prayer for our grandson Cody.  He’s still in the hospital.

  • SuperBowl XLIII

Even though Commander Mike Fink is a steelers fan, (Mike is commander of the Internatinal Space Station orbiting around the earth) I want the Arizona Cardinals to win.

Who do you want to win the Superbowl or do you care? -lol

  • Inauguration

Are you going to watch the Inauguration today?

I was encouraged by President Obama’s Inaugural speech.  He didn’t say that Government was the solution, he made reference to the market as being the answer.  That’s encouraging.

  • Dying to Self verses Trying

In the Children’s Book  Frog & Toad Together, two central characters discover the limits of mere trying when Frog bakes a batch of cookies.  “We ought to stop eating, they say, as they keep eating.”  “We must stop, they resolve, as they eat some more.”  “We need willpower”, Frog finally says, grabbing another cookie.

“What is will power?” asks Toad, swallowing another mouthful.  “Will power is trying very hard not to do something you want to do very much”, Frog says.

Frog discusses a variety of ways to help with will power, putting the cookies in a box, tying the box shut, putting it high up in a tree but each time Toad points out (in between bites) that they could climb the tree and untie the box.  In desperation, Frog finally dumps the remaining cookies outside on the ground: “Hey, birds! he calls, Here’s cookies!”

“Now we have no more cookies”, says Toad sadly.

“Yes”, says Frog, “but we have lots and lots of will power.”

“You may keep it all”, Toad replies. “I’m going home to bake a cake.”

  • Space Station

I enjoy each morning looking into the spacestation via NASA TV.  Right now the astronauts are getting the spacestation ready for 6 more people.  The camera was put out the window as the spacestation was going over India.  Each person on the spacestation can get and send email.

  • Obama Express

I enjoy watching the Inauguration proccess.    Although I didn’t vote for Obama, I support him in prayer now.  It makes me proud to be an American that an exchange of power can happen peacefully and with such celebration.  President Obama is my president and I will honor him as such.

bush.jpg I will miss President Bush.  He made difficult decisions in some of America’s darkest times.  He wasn’t on a popularity contest as the ratings showed.  I believe history will put his administration in a much different light than what is seen now.

  • President Bush

I enjoyed listening to President Bush’s farewell speach last night.  One thing I did like about President Bush was that he wasn’t running a political polularity contest.  I pray for President Obama and look forward to Tuesday and all the ceremonies.  Let the world see how we peacefully transfer power.

I like this story of a outgoing President:
Alice Roosevelt  (Daughter to President Theodore Roosevelt)
In 1974, at the age of ninety, Alice may have experienced a glimmer of peace.  President Nixon was giving his emotional farewell to his white house staff.  The entire nation was eavesdropping on national TV.  Nixon, with no sleep the night before, with a face swollen from weeping, told his staff that he had found an old book written by President Roosevelt.

Nixon went on to quote Roosevelt’s poem about “the man in the arena.”  Nixon alluded to the words the former president had written of his love for his wife, and his deep and terrible grief over her loss.
Alice watching the scene with disqust, that a resigning President would invoke her Father’s name, told friends that not until that moment had she realized how deeply her father had truly loved her mother.
Personal note:  I wonder how different Alice’s life may have been if she would of knew the love between her Father and Mother much earlier in her life.

I do write a weekly “parenting email” and I put in a section on President’s Children.  If you would like to be on the email list go to: http://randy777.blogspot.com/  and sign up.
