  • Match Maker

Aaron Burr was a historical scoundrel.  He tried to steal the presidency from Jefferson while serving as his running mate.  As vice president, he shot and killed Alexander Hamilton during a duel. Later he was involved in a treasonous conspiracy against the U.S. Government.

However, Burr was a match maker.  He served as a senator from New York when the nation's capital was still in Philadelphia.  When in town he often stayed at Mary Payne's boarding house.  There he met her widowed daughter Dorothea "Dolley" Payne.

Had the two become romantically involved and married, history may have been different for Burr.  Instead, Aaron introduced Dolley to a friend, a shy Virginia congressman who was still a bachelor at age forty-two.

    James Madison

That's how Dolley became Dolley Madison, the legendary First Lady who won over Washington and the world with her charm.

  • Health Care Plan in the ER

Another Winter Wonderland day today.  We got a little rain but not like what they got to the east of us.

Great news out of Massachutes.  The Health Care Plan is in the ER.  Balance of Power is starting to be restored.

Jesus loved everyone equally without agreeing with everyone equally. - Rick Warren

  • Teen Sex

When a baby hits the spot

According to the National Center for Health statistics, the rate of pregnancy amoung teens is rising.  However the percentage of teens having sex has remained the same - 46%.  Maybe it's not about sex but about a baby.  When interviewed Amanda Ireland, a teen and new mother said, "They're so excited to finally have someone to love them unconditionally."  So maybe the cry is, "I want to be loved."

  • Winter Wonderland

It's been winterwonderland around here for the past couple days.  It was very foggy yesterday and freezing fog is perdicted today.  The air was so thick with fog yesterday a very fine power fell.  Freezing rain tonight and tomorrow.  What a winter.

Love Dare for today: Begin praying this week, "Lord, teach me what real love is and make me a loving person."

  • Scope

A man's greatest care should be for that place where he lives longest; therefore eternity should be his scope.  Thomas Manton

    What's in your scope today?

  • Feelings

One of the ways God speaks to use through our feelings.  When I connect with Jesus early in the morning through prayer I can better discern God's communication towards.  I still see through a glass darkly and must study constantly to find the true will of God.  I look forward to heaven when our feelings will be in perfect harmony with God. Until then I will enjoy the feelings I walk in and attempt to discern which are not.

How does God speak to you?  How do you know God is speaking?

  • Reward for the Best Design

500$ was rewarded to the best design.  The winner was James Hoban, an Irish-born architect from South Carolina.  He picked a palace in Dublin, Ireland.  The palace was built for the duke of Leinster that now is the home of the Irish Parliament.

This was the discription: "A great stone house, big enough for two emperors, one Pope and the Grand Lama in the bargain."

The house was the White House; The person whose quote described the White House: Thomas Jefferson

  • Title Trauma

After George Washington was inaugurated in 1789, the US Senate convened in New York's Federal Hall to take up an important issue: The title of the President of the United States.  Vice President John Adams was the forerunner in wanting a fancy presidential name.  He wanted a more dignified name.  George Washington favored, "His High Mightiness."   The Senate Committee came back with, "His Highness the President of the United States of America and Protector of the Rights of the Same."  The House refused to even consider the matter.  The name, "Mr. President" was adopted.

Tongue firmly planted in his cheek, Ben Franklin put forward a suggested title for the vice president: "His Superfluous Excellency."
