  • Kid's do the craziest things

I spoke to a Foster Parent group last night.  (I loved it!) It brought back some memories of past experiences with foster kids.  One of our foster/adopted kids was traveling with me in the van.  We were coming back from visiting extended family. She was about 14 or 15 at the time and was sitting in the passenger seat of the van. (Whenever we go we have to take 2 vans and my wife was driving the van behind us with the rest of the kids.) I wasn't paying attention to what she was doing, until it occurred to me, holding a piece of paper on the window for a long time wasn't normal.  I said, "let me see what you've written on that paper."  She turned it around and it said, "HELP ME."  Talk about going into panic.  I can laugh now but I didn't then.

What's the goofiest thing your kids did, or you did.

  • Book?

Ronie Kendig also wrote Dead Reckoning and it was a great book. The book is a mystery in India.  After something is found in a diving expedition, the main character has to run for her life.  Two groups are after her - good and bad.
I'm looking forward to Nightshade.  It's my next book on my list after the current one I'm reading now by Lisa Harris - Blood Ransom - mystery in Africa.

What book are you reading now?

  • Airport Xray's

What is your thoughts on the new airport xray images?  Would you go through the pat down or xray machine?

  • Candy Corn

Here are a few facts about candy corn:
Candy corn was first invented back in the 1880′s.
Then in 1900, the company that is now the Jelly Belly Candy Company, started producing the candy in massive quantities.
To this day, the recipe for candy corn has remained unchanged.

Candy corn has become so popular over the years that there is even a National Candy Corn Day (October 30th). Additionally candy corn is now available in other colors for different holidays; reindeer corn for Christmas, bunny corn for Easter and Cupid corn for Valentine’s Day.

For any of you who are worried about eating too many pieces of candy corn, a cup of candy corn apparently has fewer calories than a cup of raisins. So munch away.

  • Robot

The word robot comes from a Czech term for a serf or slave.  Karel Capek, Czech, was a pioneer of the 20th century science fiction.  He wrote a play called R.U.R.  It centers on a group of mechanical monsters that revolt against their makers.  At the end of the play the robots, who had been made to serve humans, came to dominate them completely.

  • Meetings

We have more meetings with Dean Nifarodos tonight. The meeting last night was great.  It was one of those meetings that you felt spiritually beat up.  I know being tore up spiritually will give way to new life.  It's like cleaning a forest of dead trees.  He spoke on true repentance.

  • Story

And the stars of stickiness are those who can spot an idea and tell a Simple, Unexpected, Concrete, Credible, Emotional Story that stresses a single point. Sarah King

We had a speaker last night - Dean Nifarodos.  He tells great stories that has happened to him.  He shows a picture of a leper girl, her fingerless hands raised.  She is smiling.  Dean said that if the picture was taken 30 minutes prior, she was not smiling and her eyes were not open. She had just been healed of blindness from birth.

  • Celebrating

It's Kim's birthday today and we're celebrating by "getting away".  It's rare that we can do it without the kids and so it's a treasure.  When we were first married we didn't go into stores together -just didn't work.  She would put things in the cart and I'd take it out.  Now we enjoy shopping together.  We saw the movie, "Unstoppable" last night and it was great. I highly recommend it.  If you see it be ready to have your heart rate elevated the entire movie.

  • Spy

    Here's a conversation between Kim & I
I call Kim: "AD is on the move, headed to PayLess shoes"
After a few minutes Kim calls me: "She's not in Location"
I text AD asking for location and get a message back, "Dad, I found a T-shirt that says, "If you knew my mother you would understand"
I text AD again and ask where she's at.
After a few minutes I get the reply from AD, "JC Penny's"
I call Kim and tell her JC Penny's
I get a call back from Kim, "Little bird has been spotted."

A successful spy operation accomplished. We really need GPS systems.

  • Liberty Call

Joseph Hewes I love thinking back to my Navy days, especially on a day like today.  One particular memory was being on the USS Joseph Hewes, a fast frigate.  We were suppose to get underway but something was wrong with the engines.  The captain refused to give liberty call in fear that the engineers would slow down in order to be able to leave the ship. One of my jobs was ordering and storing food items.  I ordered food from around town and had my wife and small daughter meet me at the pier.  We spent the day together going from store to store getting all the food supplies needed.  Oh, that was such a precious day.  Liberty call was granted that night and we sailed the next day.
