  • Digitalis

Digitalis (Discarded Heroes, Book 2)I’m half way through Digitalis and all I can say is “wow”.  The action is fast paced. The adventure is moving and the suspense has kept me turning pages.  Marine sniper Colton “Cowboy” Neeley suffers from flashbacks and is in a life struggle.  Colton is part of a secret team that is sent on missions of rescue.  Piper Blum is a woman with a secret herself.  Colton and Piper’s path meet.  Romance and struggle is in the air as Piper’s secret becomes a danger to her and Colton.

  • Crisis

Good books have great crisis.  Every miracle has to have a crisis.  People love to see miracles but don’t want the difficult situations.

What difficult situation do you see in your life or in the lives of people around you?

Duplicitous speech will lead to a crisis of behavior.

  • Life Style or culture

I’m reading, “The Street of a Thousand Blossoms by Gail Tsukiyama.  Gina recommended the book and I’m glad she did.  It’s about Japan before and during WW2.  I’m getting a perspective of what it felt like to live in Japan during the great war.  I find myself wanting to get back to the book whenever I can.  The characters are life like and easy to love.  I know the bombs will fall and I can feel the pain of what’s to come.  I know one of the main characters make it through because he was in the prologue.

What culture or life style do you like reading about?

One of my goals for next year is become better at altruism.  It will take sacrifice as we live in a world of people that are users.  It will take discernment to know who to help and who not to help.

  • It’s hard to get back into the real world.  I’m not motivated at all. Christmas was great, but the emotional downside is draining.

  • Christmas Stories

It was a warm time at my Mom’s last night.  We started by enjoying a meal of ham and roast beef. Of course my sister in law brought her famous raisin cream pie.  (My favorite) Then we went to my brother’s church.  Small church of about 30 people.  Janine, my sister in law is great on the flute and did a special. The lights were turned off and we enjoyed the candle light service. The Pastor had an unforgettable sermon.  He spoke about a King wanting to win the hand of a maiden.  He took off his Kingly robes and became a simple servant in a small village.  Over time the maiden fell in love with him, then he revealed his true title.  Jesus laid down His titles to draw us in love with Himself.
Then back to my Mom’s to open gifts.  There were close to 20 of us.  It was a wonderful time.

I’d love to hear your Christmas Story.

  • The Crossing by Gilbert Morris

This book took me into the south during the Civil War.  I shed tears as the battle raged against friends and family.  As usual with any Gilber Morris book, I grew to know a famous person.  Stonewall Jackson, a colorful, tactful Southern General.  Yancy a personal attendant, shows the human side to this strong military leader.   I felt I was in the Civil War.  I felt like bullets and canons sounded next to me.  This was a great book that moved me emotionally.

  • Story

Thank you to those that responded about your favorite author.  I learned a little more about writers.  I still love to hear more about your favorite author.
My mind is continually working, when it comes to writing.  I love stories.  Kalli my youngest is going through an imagination stage.  Not only has she investigated Santa Clause but she is amazed at my dragon stories.  I had a baby dragon when I was a boy. It was hatched from an egg.  Kalli tells her teacher the story about my pet dragon and it’s a point of conversation for us. Kalli tells everyone in the house as though it’s a fact.

What story have you told your kids or people around you?

  • Favorite Author

Gilbert Morris was a pastor before becoming an English professor and earning a Ph.D. at the University of Arkansas. Gilbert has been a consistent bestselling author in the Christian market for many years and one of the most prolific authors in Christian fiction with over 200 books currently in print.  He and his wife live in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Gilbert’s Favorite Verse: Matthew 6:9-13 : Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

I am currently a Gilbert Morris book.  It’s about the time of the Civil War.  A southern soldier makes friends with a northern soldier.  I can feel my heart being ripped already.  I really enjoyed the other books he has written, especially the House of Winslow series.  It started with the pilgrims and went throughout US History.

  • Bullying

71% of students say that bullying is a problem at their school.  How do we teach our children about bullying?  Some parents teach their kids to stand up for themselves while others teach them non-reaction.  Both could be right depending upon the situation.  Their are coaches that believe a child needs a “thick skin” and can borderline on bullying themselves.  I can’t say I have the full answer.  I know that adults have a huge part in that problem.  Parents can’t overreact and protect their children from everything.

What would you tell a child that is being bullied?
