  • Memorial Day

    We had a good Memorial Day.  We had Kim’s Dad over for lunch.  He’s in a wheel chair so we had to stay outside.  It got a little hot but there was a nice breeze.  Last night we had my Mom and Kim’s Mom and all the kids.  It was a full house.  It was a good day.  My Mom stayed late because of all the storm warnings.  My heart does go out to all the people that are facing floods here in Yankton.   Our lawyer that helped us with all our adoptions is sand bagging his house.  Jerry was on the news last night.  Since we live by a dam I never dreamed the Missouri would ever flood.  Nothing like this has ever happened before, so the Corp doesn’t know what to tell people.  Kim’s Mom got a notice that the housing development she lives in may flood. 

    What did you do for Memorial Day?

  • Flooding

      I never thought I’d see Gavin’s Point dam pouring out so much water.  The Corp is planning on releasing even more water.  Yankton is sand bagging right now in anticipation of flooding.  Sioux City is also anticipating flooding.  Pierre is already beginning to flood.  All along the Missouri river is flooding.

  • Birth Order

    I tend to find out a lot about a person when I find out about their birth order.  I am the oldest in my family. I have 2 other brothers and 1 sister.  My wife is the oldest in her family. 
    Here are some characteristics of a first born:

  • Being right, controlling often important.
  • May respond to birth of second child by feeling unloved and neglected.
  • Strives to keep or regain parents’ attention through conformity. If this failed, chooses to misbehave.
  • May develop competent, responsible behavior or become very discouraged.
  • Strives to protect and help others.
  • Strives to please.

    • I itentify with these and struggle to not fall completely into the same.  If I have to work with someone that is also a “first” born we may bunt heads.

  • Inter Conflict

    I’m reading a book on, “How to Write Better”.  One of the suggestions the author talks about is to have the main character go through some kind of personal inter conflict.  I’ve thought about all the books I’ve read and I agree.  I think as humans we’re always trying to work something out within ourselves. 

    What kind of Inter Conflict in a character would make a good read?

  • Movie

    I and Kim got away this past few days.  We tried out a India Buffet restaurant and it was great – even the goat.-lol   There were a couple of little India kids running around and we liked that also.  Then we went to see “Soul Surfer”.  I’ve never cried so much during a movie.  It was so inspiring.  Becky Hamilton showed how amazing life can be during and after a tragedy.

    Everyone has questions.  I heard it once said that if a problem had to be figured out within an hour.  Fifty five minutes would be spent on getting the right question and 5 minutes answering that question.  The right question could change your life.

  • Bad Weather

    There has been a lot of bad weather. An average of 500 tornados a year are usually reported but this year it is over double of that and we’re only half way through the season.  There are different views on why this is happening but I want to know what you think.

    Why is this tornado season one of the worst?
