Goat Eyes
Last night I listened to a speaker talk about his time in Africa. He told a story that after he spoke to a group of people, some ladies paid him with a live goat. They then made it into goat stew. The many people had to share one spoon that was passed around the entire group, each person taking their turn. After the stew was gone a lady handed the speaker a bowl with goat eyes in it. Both were uncooked. He was expected to eat the eyes to which he didn’t disappoint his audience. What is the most gross thing you’ve eaten?
Would you eat something gross in order not to offend the people you’re around?

I think traditional haggis in Scotland most people would classify as the most disgusting thing I’ve ever eaten, although I quite enjoyed it. Or rocky mountain oysters. I draw the line at brain, marrow, and eyes though. However, if I were in a situation like the one you described, where it would most likely be an insult if I didn’t eat the eyes, I’d really do my best to swallow things I otherwise avoid.
Are the supposed to be healthy? If I closed my eyes, I might be able to force down something else’s eyes…
I’ll try any food once even if it is strange to me. I have eaten food in order not to offend the host/hostess.
I’ve eatin barbecued bull balls. Not bad…
I’m always for trying something at least once. Luckily, I’m not allergic to any kind of food.
But, I’ve probably eaten a lot of gross or weird things. And then I turn them down because I wouldn’t like the taste or the texture.
Usually I’ll try something even if it seems odd to me, but I don’t think I’d eat eyes. No, I wouldn’t eat something just to avoid offending somebody. If we’re going to be accepting to cultural differences, it has to go both ways. I won’t make fun of their culinary choices, and I expect my stomach’s boundaries to be respected.
Oh yikes! Yes, I would eat anything so as not to offend the hosts.
I do love goat faces, they are so sweet and make me smile…I don’t like to think about them in stews or soups, etc.
HUGS!
The grosest thing I’ve ever eaten were vanilla pudding and coleslaw. I have major issues with food textures, and both of those make me throw up as soon as they touch my tongue. I’ve eaten eyes, brains, internal organs, insects, and if prepared well, they were okay. Rooster testicles in a stew were odd, but not half bad. Yeah, I’ve lived in many places.
I think at this point I wouldn’t care about offending others if the food offered wasn’t kosher.
I’ll try anything as long as it isn’t unclean. :] I wanna try fried grasshopper one day!!
I don’t eat a lot of gross stuff and I guess maybe the grossest would be a raw spud. No I would not eat something gross not to offend people around me. I am pretty self centered that way and have a very delicate stomache and chronic acid reflex.
I have received your message about the camp . I have just watched the pictures with your boy and daughter . You have also a grandson. I hope the surgery went well
I am still in rest and will re-start xanga in a week of two.
In friendship
Michel.
I would, but I sure hope it wouldn’t be raw goat eyes! How is Cody?
Yes, I would. I have eaten what some think to be “gross” when in the Philippines. Fish eyes, balut, & blood pudding would top the list of the things that I *know* I’ve eaten! lol
Camel’s tongue when my family visited Israel when I was a teenager. It was a hairy and tough lol.
I don’t think I could eat any gross food.
