  • People make judgements on what they see.  When I see someone dressed up punk, goth, pierced etc. I see a pioneer.  I see someone that isn’t afraid to be an individual.   I see creativity. I appreciate the individual who blazes their own path.  I personnally want to go below their surface and find the real person.  I’ve enjoyed sitting down with such individuals at parks or malls and listening to what they have to say.  I’m interested in who they are.

  • um…who are you?
    good thoughts!

  • who is this?!

  • who are you? what school do you go to?

  • um yeah…same question as them.

  • because punk is “kool” and goth is “different” but if you think im either 1 ur wrong

  • Why does this all matter? Shouldnt these people have come to you to answer the question that you seemed to give us all. To me, I like the punk look rather than goth, if theres that much of a difference. I dont dress like a punk for some reason that people might think of…. ah well. Yeah, well the style is just kicking arse to me!

  • I really don’t know. I don’t dress like that.

  • I used to dress “differently”….only because I liked the clothes…Its not really a state of mind or anything..(at least it wasnt for me) I just wore skirts every single day in highschool and Hot Topic had the cutest ones…so…there you go I guess.

Its not really a state of mind just a style of clothes or style of music.  I was fasinated by Marilyn Manson then and still am now…but I work with children and do not dress anything like I did when I was younger…

  • I do a before and after school program..

  • its who they are thats all i have to tell you…. and theirs a big difference between punk and goth

  • Alot of people think they are so cool for being scene, and so they take pictures of them doing something they have seen before and think they are cool. Well thats what my friends do >.>

  • i can’t stand teens who dress like a ’punk’ or ‘goth’
“there’s something dreadfully wrong with the scene when the easiest way to get into girl’s pants is to get into girl’s pants.”–Mitch Clem

    ~*Quel*~

  • they probably do it because they can’t fit in anywhere else and punk groups usual accept a lot of different people because the whole point is to be different, but i think its mainly superficial for most people.

  • lol. dont ask me?

im more of a preppy girl then goth.

    haha.

  • Hey Randy,

What a very thought-provoking post Randy!

When my Mom used to teach sunday school call, those are the kind of teens she would ask, the knida thta would green ice-cream hair-dos, riding on their skatboards. It made some people mad, but they need Jesus just as much as anybody else. I really appriciated your post today. You have a very Jesus-like attitude, and thats who He needs to do His work here on earth. God bless you!

    ~Shannon

P.S. comment on ym blog again soemtime. You used to like all the time and you don’t anymore:(

  • i just wear what i like…..most ppl think im a preppy girl and im not……..im like a goth emonitonally and dress like a prep…so im just tryin to wear what most goths wear. i just dont really fit in and the goths i know dont judge you like all the other groups and i hangout with them so i just might as well dress like them. so thats a reason some might like the look i guess.

  • Well everything punks generally do is against the norm, so its being different. not doing what everyone else does. I dont really know about the goth thing lol….there are different types of “punk” like from the different generations…like back in the day , what would be ” weird “…but yeah u get it…

  • i realy think that your thoughts on that are very interesting…

  • All I know is that the people that are “different” or goths punks whatever…. where always the first to befriend a new comer no matter what they looked like and I personally respect that.  Now on Friday the 13th………Ha ha ha!  I just think it’s just another date with way too much thought put into it.

  • uh dude, are you fucking kidding me? “When I see someone dressed up punk, goth, pierced etc. I see a pioneer. I see someone that isn’t afraid to be an individual. I see creativity.”

Most of those “original induvidual goth/punk people” are just following ANOTHER trend, a stupid teenage fad going on. You must be freaking joking when you say, “i see an individual.” there is barely ANYTHING individual about it. sure, punk ten YEARS ago was “original” but now it is just a fad, a trend, something teenagers can follow like dumb sheep.

punk and goth are just LABELS. ANY label, anyone FOLLOWING a label, is no way in fucking hell an individual.

  • I once made the mistake of labeling myself last year. big mistake, I now despise labels. they have a way of turning on you.

  • hahah.. I hear ya randy. It looks like a lot of people in here are kinda mixed up on what you said, but Its a good point. I still wonder why people dress like that, because I feel they should be showing difference on the inside not the outside. If they are following Christ then I can’t say much though. God bless

  • i’m not sure why teens like the gothic punk look…..

maybe its because they arent afraid to dress how they want, and be unique…..then again how can you be unique when everybody else is dressing like a punk…..when i was in highschool dressing “punk” was the fad……i didnt really like that fad…..be who you are dont follow trends is how i look at it…..

    i dont know i’m just rambling now….

  • Yeah, there were parts of Grand Island that were literally islands…which doesn’t happen often in the state of Nebraska…

  • Nice points.  At least someone in this world has a positive attitude towards individuals who dress their own way.  Random Props.

  • Punk- It follows the music you like and the lifestyle. Goth- For all those suicidal morons that say they’re gonna slit their wrists but dont because they’re too pansy-ish about it.

  • i kind of agree with alot of peoples thoughts, but I think its mostly jsut a way to express yourself. I dunno you get into things you like, me i like all types of clothes one day im punk the next im prep, its just a way to show ppl what your all about, Maybe its trying to to be different in a way, but more and more ppl dress punk, its a way to belong more or less stand out these days. I lvoe ppl that are punk/goth, some of the nicest ppl i have ever met like black ALOT lol its just a way to express :)
    Casey†

  • I agree with you.  I think that every person is a unique individual, EVERYBODY; that includes the “outcasts” as well.  I don’t like it when people make judgements about other people, no matter what they look like.  I try not to do it myself.

  • The only reason we dress like we do is 4 individuality..

  • Because they find something and they express themselves through it. But i dont really know. Maybe it just floats their boat.

  • in answer to your question: why do teens like the punk/goth look? i think they do it for attention and to be diffrent. they like to feel cool. they like it when people stare at them…. they like it when people think of them as the ends of society. they like being the center of attention. when they wear that heavy metal shit with the bracelots and piercings, they feel cool. they like it when kids look up to them for being cool… i guess this doesnt make sense but yaw… u asked and i answered..

    -Cait

P.S. why did u ask me anyways?

  • RANDOM COMMENT FOLLOWS

hey, everyone who just answered your comment is a jackass. they make me laugh. if you wanna know something about it, here it is…everyone else’s opinion means two things, jack and shit. keep searchin, but you ain’t never gonna solve that riddle

    peace biatch

  • bc they are beautiful and want your bod.

  • I used to wear all the “goth” stuff… now I just do whatever. I don’t care what color I wear, I don’t care who thinks what of what I am wearing. It’s just clothing, afterall.

My main thing is music. And not just “punk rock” or “goth” music. I like all music. Except country… I hate that. Not too keen on rap either, but I listen to a LITTLE bit of it… all in all, goth and punk is really just a label. Just like prep or jock. Everyone wants to be something, but in their own way. I just choose to be “on the dark side” ;)

    <3, Katy

  • i do it for the hell of it, i really have no reasoning behind how i look, but i do have my beliefs.

IM me sometime and we can talk: NickBlinkoIsPope

  • man, thst’s deep. *individuality hug*
    random propz

  • people like the punk or goth look because you can express your self easier with that kind of clothes and if you cant express yourself that way you dress like a prep o and thanks for the random comment we should talk more often i can tell we would get a long lol bye

  • Randy—

I think I dress more punkish than goth…but the reason I do it is because it’s breaking away from this mainstream crap that we’re all sick of staring at and listening to….and you know what I find weird? The people who dress all “preppy” think punks and goths are scaring when in all normality they are probably nicer than the “preppier” dressed person…..I think people just need to quit being afraid of something thats individualistic, or different than they are…..there is my rant on all of that….come post on my site again if you want….

  • hey, i saw your comment on my friends xanga. lostforgotten_souls     and well we dress the way we feel. me i dress punk and goth. it really depends if im depressed or happy. what i feel is how i dress, and if people have problems with it and think im weird well good for them, i couldnt give a shit. no one should. i dont think you should change yourself for someone just to fit in or get them to like you. but thats just my reasons and thoughts. whats yours? write back

    ~Christy~

  • Well I am on both sides of this in away I believe that it is good to be yourself and unique But on the other hand to be goth or punk really is not being an individual because so many people are. As long as you have god in your heart and have some kind of clothes on it’s all good.

  • Same here who are you

  • my thoughts on friday the 13th? well, i think it’s over-rated. but that’s just me. well…that’s it. i like your site. props. by the way, what’s this song called? i like it  =)

    later

  • i`m glad to hear that. usually when someone sees someone dressed in a “strange” way they immediately think that there is something wrong with them or that they`re troublemakers. therefore, i idolize you for your kindness and i guess you can say understanding towards people who aren`t afaid to be themselves. i wish that there would be more people like you in the world. [random props]

  • why do teens like the “punk” look?? well i dont exactly call it “punk”, i just call it a style. And i really dont know why they do. I just have my own style, i wear whatever. If you think its “punk”, thats fine, but i myself am not gonna say i dress a like a “punk” because then i think i would be a poseur.(and poseurs fucking suck)

  • Erm wow……someones been posting on people’s blogs alot. Yes I suppose it is done in the spirit of individuality….but these days…..everyone is jumping on the bandwagon…. england is inheriting the teenage punk culture…..I myself am a slave to the trappings.

  • I suppose it’s just because it’s a way to express ourselves on the outside with the way you feel on the inside. It’s sort of like saying, “Hey, what you see is what you get. This is what I look like on the inside and if you can’t accept it, then you can’t accept me.” I’m not really sure how it got started, but I think a lot of the clothes are cute. I’m not intimidated at all just by how someone dresses. I mean, my friends and I just put on black lipstick one day and walked through what was called the “prep area” and everyone seemed disgusted, made fun of us, or was afraid….all because it’s different and quote unquote “weird”. I don’t have a problem with it at all. You can’t judge a book by it’s cover. Plus the fact that I sometimes used to dress like that as a test to maybe just see who would come up and talk to me and be open-minded. So, that’s basically my opinion.~kiwiD

  • I dont know!! Why are you asking me this question!!!!

  • dude ur pretty rad…i dont kno..im sayin about 75% of kids that dress “punk” are poseurs..mostly the real ones do it to express themselvs and they want ppl to kno that they are a unique individual

  • WERE YOU ASKING ME IF I WAS PUNK, B.C. IM NOT PUNK

  •  UHMM  i dont know.. why people like that STUPID goth lok its soo gayy… i sware…

  • hmm is this randy i met at cypress

    simone

  • and i love the weblog you wrote, you seem to be a very observitive person

  • i think people dress that way to express their thoughts… like… if someone is depressed and not all that happy… they were all black because black is a dark and unhappy color… just like if someone is happy… they arent going to wear all black… they are going to were happy and bright colors…. then again… some people do it just to follow everyone else… but some people… really do it to express their thought and  feelings as an individual… sorry if i didnt help!

  • You Have Interesting Thoughts

  • You see the punks and the goths arent being different and an individual. They go to Hot Topic and buy their hair dye and cool punk band shirts. But what they’re really doing is conforming to a subculture. Isn’t that kind of ironic?

  • i guess ppl pick the “punk look” as a style for them, to seperate them from this reality which is full of fanstay. To make themselves part with this fanstay land, when others think its unnormal. To me its okiez to have the “punk look” and y i put quotes on it because its the person that makes it that way. Punk is describe as many things. But to me Punk is an attitude, the way u make things. Not a style, sometimes in music. But u have to be careful. With this look there is, wat punks say, pousers. Even pousers are part of the reality which they play on like its a fashion, then it turns into a fad. When to some its a way of life, cuz its all they know. i like being different and changin the labels especially bein an black american. sorriez for the long rant luv & peace ^.^

  • You truly seem to be quite the popular with this post… so here’s my rendition…

“punk” or “goth” is merely a catagorization. I find it insulting really. I dress the way I dress, I live the life I live, and I am who I am. Don’t label me, don’t toss meaningless words in my face because it truly effects me not. Most people at school can’t label me because I am a little of everything because I like a little of everything, and well, therefore some do call me a poser. If that’s what I am, than so be it.

And I do agree, the “punk” and “goth” looks do (sometimes) show creativity. I enjoy it, it’s always fun “accessorizing” and that’s one thing the two looks do. Ne wayz, that’s the way I feel and that’s what I tell everyone. Why label yourself as something other than your name?

  • i dont really think dresing “punk” or “goth” is being an individual!!! is folowin a trend, and LOTS uv peeps dress lyk that hunny!  sum peeps DO dress originally, and those people r fucking KICKASS! but i really dont think that dressin lyka  punk or goth or w/e the fuck is bein “original” no offence…u sound prety cool

  • Wow…kudos to you. You’re awesome for righting that instead of just saying oh, what freaks. I’m not goth, but I have a slight punk side. Good for you.

    comment on my xanga sweetashoney520

  • hey what randy is this…..like wahts ur last name..??

  • You. Uh uh, no way. You are not going around placing “random posts” on other people’s xangas, espescially not mine. Do you think it makes me a “pioneer” if I spike my hair and dye it neon pink, then run around wearing the goth and punk clothes you’re talking about? If that’s what it means to be a pioneer, then what happened to those that founded our nation? Weren’t they pioneers too? Yeah, they were, just not in the fucked up modern way. There is no such thing as a non-conformist anymore. Even those that oppose conformation are conforming to something, NON-CONFORMATION. It just doesn’t work that way anymore.

Anyway, haven’t you heard that blogging is now a fad among TEENS? From your birth year it doesn’t quite seem like you’re school age, unless you’re going back to college, or maybe even high school? Don’t let me overestimate you.

Don’t try to fake Asian either with that picture there. It’s sickening to see all these people out there demoralizing us Asians with all your talk about individuality; we’re minority enough. I think individuality lies in each and every one of us, no matter what you do. Even each robot has its own individual serial number. Straight A’s for four years is impressive enough to make me special, no? Or do I have to go streaking through down town?

Just keep off and away from people you don’t know. Backfire isn’t very pretty.

  • I totally agree Randy. I love the outkasts, quiet people, the hurts ones, etc… I love listening to them, helping them, finding out who they are and just caring for them. You are a good person.
