I was thinking about marriage this morning. Song of Solomon is a great book on God’s plan concerning marriage. It’s a beautiful union of two people. When the Pharisees were testing Jesus about divorce he asked them this question: “What did Moses say about it?” “Moses permitted it.” Jesus went on to tell them that Moses permitted it because of their hard hearts. One flesh cannot happen with hard hearts in much the same manner that hard clay cannot be joined to hardened clay. But soft clay can be mixed together with soft clay. I’ve talked with people that have had troubled marriages. I find one common element in each of my conversations with them: hard hearts. Each one has to be right and in reality they are probably right. But to what cost? We need to put down our own rights and soften our hearts.

oh you are so right! Hard hearts! I had a rough time in my mariage early on.. and yup .. it was about hard hearts and selfishness. Got past that and low and behold a wonderful God blessed mariage appeared!

In marriage it is so important to keep the Word at the focus. If you go by whose flesh is being stroked, it’s bound to end up in trouble. People should ask themselves, “Would they rather be right, or happy?”
