  • Surprise & Friendship

    Shuttle rollout
Shuttle Atlantis began a sluggish move to the launch pad on Thursday in preparation for a mid-March mission.

Friends of ours had a big surprise.  They have 4 boys and the Doctor told them they were having another boy.  A girl was born this morning at 3:30 am.  Justin & Virginia

Friends  - In the greek the word for brethren is adelphos.  It means two people who were born from the same womb.  During the time of Alexander the Great the word brethren was used to describe faithful soldiers.  Alexander would hold public ceremonies honoring faithful soldiers.  Alexander would embrace the soldier and publicly announce, “Alexander the Great is proud to be the brother of this soldier.”  One of the reasons Alexander was a powerful ruler was because of the faithfulness of his soldiers.  One one particular event, Alexander the Great marched his army to a besieged city.  He met with the leaders and told them to surrender.  They said no.  Alexander then arranged another meeting at the cliffs that were near the city.  Alexander the Great then ordered his army to march forward. They did, the 1st few ranks falling over the cliffs to their death.  Alexander then looked at the leader of the city and said surrender.   The city surrendered.
I watched this word adelphos in action yesterday.  I took my 94 year old Grandmother to see her sister.  They had such love in their eyes for each other.  It was so great to see the interaction of deep rare friendship.

Do you have a friend that you would die for?   (Besides your mate.)

I’m looking forward to this retreat:  HonorBound  (Go to this site and see a lot of my friends.)

What horrible ordeal did you go through?  Did it make you a better person?

The Robins are back!   What a great site.  Spring is on the way.

    I’m 1,505,506,366 seconds old.

  • i bet they are rejoicing over having a little girl :)

i don’t have a best friend right now, but i do have many friends that i care deeply about.

    have a great day !!!!!

  • my best friend is my hubby and yes I would die for him..lol

  • Absolutly, there are people I don’t even know that I probably would die for if the need be.

  • That is very cool. Such a nice surprise. :) My SIL has 5 boys. They finally gave up thank God. Yes, there are people who mean that much to me.

  • I love rollouts! They have to bring in new gravel everytime the Crawler rolls down the road because it crushes the stuff they lay down.

Most historians think the Alexander story you mentioned is apocryphal, at best. The Macedonians didn’t mind suicide missions, but it had to involve death at the end of a sword or lance rather than the bottom of a cliff. That, combined with the fact that an act such as that would have jeopardized the loyalty Alexander had built between himself and his men, makes the oft-told story legendary but very probably a myth.

  • A definition would be the positioning or nearness….I thought that the two stories were different but how you mentioned them in the same post was interesting to me….Be Blessed….Mike

  • SO HAPPY..I DON’T HAVE A FRIEND THAT WORTH ME TO DIED FOR…BUT I AM FINDING..= =”

  • That is a beautiful family and i am glad they have a girl…they will figure out what to do with her soon enough!!! LOL

  • I’ve noticed that the previous commentators have avoided answering that deeply profound question you posed. Throughout my life, I have asked myself that question and could not answer it unequivocally. I have always asked Jesus to deepen and enrich my faith and STILL, the thought of dying for the sake of another makes me hesitant…until my son was destined for Desert Storm!!! I was beside myself. He told me to take heart and to pray for him. His attitude was innocent, loyal and determined. He reminded me that Christ died for exactly the same cause…FREEDOM!!! He’d said that every solider went to their death, whether they wanted it or expected it, emulating Jesus Christ. They go, with a redemptive and willing pride to face death for the sake of “freedom.” His statements brought me to my spiritual knees. It was humbling. My little boy…was willing to give up his life for his brethern…and he was fully aware that some Americans would mock his sacrifice…as they are doing right now. My son taught me a lesson in the fullness of Faith..and should he die, we would certainly meet again. “Let’s make a date, mom…we will meet again in Heaven.”
So, to answer your question: Yes, I think I could die so that other’s could live in the same “freedom” I have come to honor and respect.

  • Congrats to your friends!

  • robbie_caudle  I think you’ve visited her site.

  • yes, and I now I’m not the only one, aren’t the people in the military willing to do that for each of us to preserve our freedoms.

and yes I honestly believe I could and would if the need arose

  • You asked, “Do you have a friend that you would die for?   (Besides your mate.)”

  • To be honest, I don’t have tons of friends….I’m too busy for them unfortunately. As far as laying down my life, in certain situations it’s not even about thought, it’s about reaction. That’s what I love about people helping people….In emergencies they usually lose the ‘thinking’ part and just dive right in to save even a complete stranger. I wouldn’t think twice about rushing into help or possibly save a stranger (Even if that meant my life in return), so of course, I feel that way about those close to me. If it’s my time to go, it’s my time to go. =)

  • Absolutely amazing. There’s no doubt that Alexander was a truly great leader among men.

  • Billy Graham — Yes, I went to his 1969 Anaheim, CA. Crusade. He’s been out here again, but I did not go. He is a great servant of God.  “Do you have a friend that you would die for?”  I would have to wait until the time came; however, if someone would tell me that they would kill me if I didn’t deny Jesus — I wouldn’t have a second thought — I’d say ‘Do it!’ JESUS IS LORD!!  My last breath here would be my first breath in Heaven. Have a Happy Day. ~Carolyn

  • My best friend is my hubby and I would die for him. I’d die for any of my kids and kid-in-laws. But, under certain circumstances…I would probably die for just about anyone…in order to save them that is.

CONGRAT’S to your friends! That is so exciting!!!

  • a friend i would die for??  that entirely depends on the circumstance.

  • Please don’t make me think that hard today–my brain is not missing, but it has been in need of a little holiday lately & I am inclined to indulge it…..
ryc: this one is definitely a “time robber” who has to have limits applied to nearly every situation, with frequent breaks for me in between encounters. Donkey’s brother has dubbed her a “psychic vampire” and a number of well-meaning folks in our church have been “sucked dry” after dealing with her….

  • RYC:  So do I and Yes! I do.  I wouldn’t be here today if it had not been for the working of the HOLY SPIRIT!!!  He works through His people and I praise GOD for Him.  I LOVE HIM!!!  And He ALWAYS shines the spotlight on JESUS!!

  • Alexander the Great was demented.
That must be a pretty stupid doctor!

  • I read your war story

I will keep my tag on one condition, that my next car doesn’t also have mysterious break downs that have mechanics scratching their heads. If the next car does that, that tag is from the pit of hell and I am demanding another one.

  • hey randy waz up. heard danny likes you. okay maybe not. she said your hers when i said i was on your site. lol im her bff. she has a boyfreind but he  wasn’t talking to her

  •  Hi it’s brittany ! I’m sorry that i have not ben talking to u for a long time .

        cmt me bac

                      britt

  • yay a girl, I bet they were excited!

anyway – a friend I would die for?  Wow, I don’t think I had ever thought of this one… I do, though.  I have some of the greatest friends ever. God is good!

  • Only one… Barbara. I couldn’t live without her.

  • sorry for all the stuff before. that sounds cool. do you like help out with foster kids. and like go to court with them. cuz if you do thats what my aunt does. and you could be in the same organization.

  • RYC: Two decades ago we were good friends. Now we’re family and beyond. Friendship is like that, I think.

  • I’d die for my best friend, because I love him very much ( not romantically, that’d be weird…lol)…..the other person that’d I’d die for is any person that hasn’t excepted Jesus as their Savior, because they’re not ready to die, and while I don’t want to die, I’m ready (spiritually) to die.

  • I don’t know if I’m ready to die for a friend just yet, but my family, I would. I hope it’s easy done as said. Maybe it’s a question of reciprocity, would I die for someone who would die for me? ..which is a selfish way of thinking. then again, if I would die, I wouldn’t be able to know if the person would do the same!
