MTV/AP Study Shows Youth Value Marriage, Family

Is the culture getting in the way of their dreams?

A seven-month study conducted by MTV and The Associated Press reveals young people find the most happiness in family, religion is important to them, and they see marriage and children in their future.

Nearly 1,300 young people aged 13 to 24 years old were interviewed in late April. When asked what one thing in life makes them the most happy, 20 percent said family, the top answer. Nearly three-quarters said their relationship with their parents also makes them happy, and most of the respondents listed their parents as their heroes.

We purchased a new washer yesterday and Kim was so excited.  I thought this cartoon was funny considering this.  The funny part about it was on Monday my wife called the church to talk to me about buying the washer.  Pastor Jeff answered and not knowing what she was doing and wanting to goof around said this, “Hi Kim, Go out and spend a thousand dollars.”   We told him the rest of the story and we all laughed.

  • Out of the mouth of babes….these are such true quotes
and if we as adults could do one of these a month…wow

  • That is too funny!  Hey, I’m coming to LifeLight Sat and also gonna visit the big lake in Yankton.  Maybe I’ll see ya there.  I’ll be the Christian walking around in shorts and a tank top.  ;)   You would be the first xanga meeting in real life.

  • Love those quotes. Teens are smart!

I’m a youth, and I certainly value marriage and family. I’m living proof .

I saw that comic in the local papers… I love Zits. Hehe.

  • yes i would say family or parents make me happy esp now that I have my own family as well.

  • Isn’t it amazing what we find exciting as adults.  I remember when we bought our trash can that had the lid that popped up.  I was ecstatic1   Course, that wonder has worn off after umpteen bags of trash….

That’s great about the study, and the quotes were excellent as well!

  • I just bought a fairly new dryer.  The old owners bought a house that had a gas hookup for the dryer, thus causing them to buy a new one.  When I went to put my first load in it, I found a load of clothes already in it.  The old owner had forgot to look inside of it before selling it.   Imagine my surprise, and theirs when we found clothes that had been there for five months.

  • I could use a new dryer…. and a maid that knows how to use the washing machine and dryer.

  • RYC: No problems. I love commenting.

  • Those sayings would work for any age…not just teens.

    Congratulations on the new dryer.

  • Yea, K also invited me to attend a church that meets by the lake, however I’m going home Sat night.  I want to be there for service.  :)

  • I recently got a new washing machine and I really wanted a clothes line too, no one except me thought it was a good idea though….. that was an encouraging study – maybe the future looks bright!!!!

  • Good quotes, and, sadly, a cartoon I can relate to only too well.  ;)

  • ryc: Excellent come back to a silly question!

  • you know, i’ve never done my own laundry…

  • i like the quote about “strangers are friends waiting to happen”

  • I’ve always liked another quote from Francis of Assisi, “Preach the Gospel always, if necessary, use words.”
