  • What?

New York Govenor Spitzer public apology concerning his involvement in prostitution.
“I have acted in a way that violates my obligations to my family … my sense of right and wrong.”  “I must now dedicate some time to rededicate my trust to my family.”

After I heard the New York Govenor speak, I went through a series of emotions.  1st emotion was one of not caring.  But then I began to think of his family and I felt sad that his family is going to be torn apart, if not outwardly then inwardly.  Then I watched CNN and heard a CNN reporter say, “if this happened in Europe it would be on page 28″.  He continued to say that America’s standards are destroying “Great Men”.  My emotion turned to anger.  My question today is this:  What makes a great man?

I had such a bad day yesterday I forgot to mention to my wife that I was involved in an accident until last night.  (A truck pulled out in front of me -only minor damage.)

Gary Smalley writes about vision for a child, in his book, “The
Blessing”.   He writes this, seeing a special future for a child is like building him a campfire on a dark night.  It draws him “toward the warmth of genuine concern and fulfilled potential – instead of leaving a child to head into a dark unknown.

Every day you have an opportunity to paint a bright future for you
child.  It’s so much better drawing a child into an area then trying to drive him.  Drawing takes much less effort than driving.

A law in physics says that water can not rise above it’s source.  The same is true, in a sense, for your child.

  • I wish that the CNN reporter who said that would go LIVE in Europe!!!!

He or she is OBVIOUSLY a DEMOCRAT, like Spitzer…..the way he / she casually dismisses this incident.

If that were President Bush in this situation, he / she would be screaming for his resignation!!!!!!

To answer your question, from CNN’s perspective “a great man is a DEMOCRAT……..ANY Democrat.”

From God’s perspective (and mine), a great man is a man like David, “a man after God’s own heart”. Certainly not a PERFECT man, but one who seeks to please Him in all things.

  •  We all have our sin of choice.  Mine is no better or worse than his.  However, when one is in public office, one must learn to be more celebate in one’s choices.  In this day in age, there is nothing that is secret.  If the camera doesn’t see it one day, it will the next.  Every politician, preacher and teacher must know that by  know.

  • High standards are what MAKES a great man….

That said, I feel sorrow for someone who has so much and is willing to risk it like lie, it has to be an addiction or illness… it surely isn’t a sane thing to do!

  • I still can’t believe that story.

I am sorry you were in an accident, glad everyone is okay!

And I’m honestly not sure what makes a great man. The only one I can say I’ve ever encountered is Jesus. So, I do have to agree with clintspirations.

  • @beadbrat - It is so sad.  I felt horrible for his wife and teenage girls.

  • @clintspirations - You’re right – standards change with the political wind.  “They did what was right in their own eyes.”  -that verse sounds political to me.

  • @Kowpatty - It’s true – you’re sin will catch up with you.

  • I feel bad for his wife and three daughters,he had no idea how that decision will impact his daughters lives.
The Blessing id a good book!

  • @iknowHimdou - Jesus is the standard we should strive for.

  • @seedsower - Hopefully his family will be able to rebound.

  • I agree with clintspirations

I feel bad for his family.

I think a great man is one who strives to follow Christ in all that he does.

  • @Kristenmomof3 - Yes, that is the greatest standard.

  • The look on the wife’s face broke my heart. I really feel for her.
    Sorry your day was crummy

  • Some days are like that. Some days are worse. Some days better.

Someday the Lord will return. Somehow, I just don’t believe this country will be able to maintain  a good Christian standard. Wish it could, but the evil influences are strong and temptations are very inviting. The guilt of sin does not sting or convict the heart of wrong doing. If the heart is not convicted, then the person has no reason to do good or do the right thing.

This may sound gloomy, but I think the one thing we need to do as Christians is to battle for what is godly and good. We need to battle for the widows, the fatherless, and those that are hurting. We need to be pointing the way to the Savior. We need to be showing the Savior’s love and His forgiveness. We may not change our country or this world, but we can be used by the Lord to change the lives of those He puts in our path.

The Lord is going to win the battle. We are on the winning side! It might cost us our lives here on this earth, but eternal life is a lot longer anyway.

This is a little rambly and long. I am coming off a 12 hr shift. Hope I have made sense.

  • i hope you’re ok from the accident! the news is quite shocking isn’t it? especially coming from a seemingly righteous man like spitzer. terrible. i feel really bad for the wife and the kids.

  • The standards we ought to live by are found in the Word, we all fall down and the Lord helps us to our feet as we repent…..a very sad day for NY.

    Mike

  • yes his wife look beyond hurt and embrassed for what her husband done. I alway wonder how come pple do something like that when they know they are public figure.

  • @Papaya26 - She looked really hurt.  My heart goes out to her and her daughters.

  • @xThexGodfatherx - Yes, it is a sad day for New York and for America.

  • I like that about the child and the fire.  I’m sorry that I didn’t do a better job at the time with the kids but they said,”mom, you were a good mom,you read to us and played with us.”

I have been divorced from the first hubby for 25yrs or more and I will tell you this; it’s about poor selfesteem and nothing else.  If you don’t feel good about yourself and the devil tempts you -you will sin.  If God is in your life you go to him first and say,”God,help me.”

  • @jillcarmel - You are so right about self esteem.  It comes down to our choice.

  • @Randy7777 - it took me alot of years and thinking to come to that conclusion.  It’s not so important that he did what he did but what is important is why did he feel the need to do it in the first place.

  • I figure that if a person is willing to break one of the most important vows that they can make, then what else are they willing to do?

  • Isn’t that a lovely picture? She looks like she would rather be anywhere but there. I don’t blame her. Back later to answer your question.

  • I pray that the entire family may turn to Jesus and receive healing.  As others have said, a great man is a man who is after God’s own heart.

Hope you’re having a better day today.

  • @waiting_for_the_final_trumpet - Rough days make OK days better. lol

  • sorry to hear that…

  • the part that bothered me the most is that this man has embarrassed his family and his country.. and on his way up the podium to make a speech after he had already been caught, he smiled and waved at the crowd!!  GRRRRRRRR… dont know why, but that really got on my nerves!!!

  • What makes a man great?

    When he does no harm.

  • Oh, Randy…I pray you guys are okay.  Rededicate his trust to his family????  There would be no way…I feel so bad for the daughters.

  • @jerseygirlsrule - Rededicating his trust to his family.  -that’s gonna be tough.  Maybe shutting off the world was a good idea.

  • What does “rededicating his trust” mean? Does he mean earning their trust again? Maybe he needs to rededicate his faithfulness… I’ve got a picture to email you.

  • @robbie_caudle - That’s going to be very difficult to earn their trust first.  I think he shouldn’t of drug his wife in front of the cameras.  That would of been the 1st loving act he could of done in this ordeal.
