we had a relative in the navy and used to go to San Diego and see them. Those ships are huge closeup.
@jillcarmel - The carrier I was on had 5000 men on it. We’d be out in the middle of no where and still I would see new people. It was like a little city. Did you go on any ships?

no, we had a chance when my husband and I saw the Midway in San Diego back in 2005 but he has had 3 knee replacements and have early on set of arithritis so they said the tour was 2 hours. I told him that I see men who were from WW2 on there -most were senior citizens and they were crawling all over like ship rats in and out of places but he said that he couldn’t do it.
As a kid we just stayed at the naval base housing and never went on a ship.
