President Bush
I enjoyed listening to President Bush’s farewell speach last night. One thing I did like about President Bush was that he wasn’t running a political polularity contest. I pray for President Obama and look forward to Tuesday and all the ceremonies. Let the world see how we peacefully transfer power.
I like this story of a outgoing President:
Alice Roosevelt (Daughter to President Theodore Roosevelt)
In 1974, at the age of ninety, Alice may have experienced a glimmer of peace. President Nixon was giving his emotional farewell to his white house staff. The entire nation was eavesdropping on national TV. Nixon, with no sleep the night before, with a face swollen from weeping, told his staff that he had found an old book written by President Roosevelt.Nixon went on to quote Roosevelt’s poem about “the man in the arena.” Nixon alluded to the words the former president had written of his love for his wife, and his deep and terrible grief over her loss.Alice watching the scene with disqust, that a resigning President would invoke her Father’s name, told friends that not until that moment had she realized how deeply her father had truly loved her mother.Personal note: I wonder how different Alice’s life may have been if she would of knew the love between her Father and Mother much earlier in her life.
I do write a weekly “parenting email” and I put in a section on President’s Children. If you would like to be on the email list go to: http://randy777.blogspot.com/ and sign up.

President-Elect Obama has already shown that, unlike President Bush, he is governed by “the fear of man which brings a snare”. When he gets heat for choosing Rick Warren, he adds Eugene Robinson to APPEASE. We’re in for some hard times with President Obama, brother. (BTW, I am not a Rick Warren fan, in my opinion the fact that he is considered “radical” by some shows how far this nation has drifted morally.)
Back to President Bush, compared to President REAGAN he WAS running a popularity contest…..but that only means Bush was a GOOD President. Reagan was a GREAT one.
Roosevelt is renowned in France like a grand president of the USA ( even if he didn’ t like the general de Gaulle , grand French stateman .Roosevelt sorted out the USA from the famous crisis od 1929 with his New Deal .
After him we know much Kennedy .
What about Obama ? let him his chances and for the US too.
In friendship
Michel
Alice did pretty good without her mother and she married a Longfellow I believe.
I didn’t see the speech as I had to work.
Very interesting.
I read recently that the press gave President Bush high marks for honesty and candor at his last press conference and they wondered where was this man all of the previous 8 years? I haven’t always agreed with him but 8 years is a long time to judge a president but overall I felt he did the best he could with what was dealt to him in the world….I will ber praying for our next president and our Country for sure…ryc…glad no one was coming behind her too!
Blessings…Mike
@fauquet - That’s interesting about Roosevelt. Sounds like his memory may be more respected in France than in America.
