  • Michael Jackson

I had a lady come in my office on Tuesday.  She was upset over something she heard on K Love about Michael Jackson.  I listened to her in silence, in respect for the dead, about how great Michael Jackson was. (I did change the subject and talk about Jesus)  It caused me to wonder why the strong connection so many millions of people had for the pop star.  His music had a great beat, but there was nothing really deep about it. It talked about: “The kid is not mine & don’t fight.  I’ve also wondered where all the people were when Michael was going through his molestation law suit.  Why was Al Sharpton silent?  Jessy Jackson? All of Hollywood?  Was it because they were afraid of tarnishing their own image?  And now are they standing with Michael to get an elevated status?  Michael did achieve in death what he wanted so badly in life – elevated image.   I don’t have to jump on that upward band wagon to be elevated; I worship the One who is elevated - Jesus.

  • Hi Randy, Michael pretty much shaped modern music and dance and not only sold his own albums but revived the record industry as a whole – helping other artists to sell. He was a role model for a lot of African American singers because without his success they most likely would not be a success. He paved the ways for others to succeed. He was the first one to do what he does. Most modern pop or rnb songs copy his style and moves. I don’t know all of his songs, but one of them is “Black or White” which I like because I’m in a interracial relationship – and it’s talking about accepting a person because you love them – it doesn’t matter if they’re black or white. Maybe not all of his songs were meaniful to everyone… but his style was what caught the world’s attention. Sure he had problems, that’s for real. And I definitely agree people shouldn’t worship celebrities… but the one and true God. Nethertheless he was an influential person, whom the world won’t forget.

  • I believe Michael was a talented yet tortured man. All you have to do is look at the continued plastic surgeries to see that he had a terrible self image. I can only feel sorry for him.

  • I never really listened to him much.

  • I agree that even Pope John Paul and Mother Theresa shouldn’t be elevated but I’m curious too ? what is the attraction? more then the music. It’s very odd to me but I was just stay quiet since I don’t understand but I see a great need in these people.

  • Thou shall have no other gods before me~GOD

  • @heidi_helen - Thanks – that gives a little more insight.  I’m just curious of the popularity.

  • @DanishDoll - I agree – looked like self torture – wanting to be someone you’re not & not liking who you are.

  • I agree…. where were they when he was alive and needing support? I truly get the impression he didn’t do anything sexually inappropriate with those kids but tried to relive his childhood thru them …….which was sort of messed up and left himself open for lawsuits I guess. I felt very sorry for the man. Seriously.

  • Oh and………..my daughter suffers from the same ailment as he did called vitiligo. One of the treatments is to remove all the pigment from the surrounding skin. I feel bad that he went thru the ridicule he did. I know Madison is very self conscious about it and she wasn’t and isn’t in the public eye so I can only imagine how he felt.

  • @chasnfireflies - I totally agree with you on that.  I also believe he didn’t do anything sexually inappropriate.  His thinking was messed up.  -to tell the world he was sleeping with children – well that’s messed up.

  • I honestly don’t understand why people worship him so. It genuinely bothered me to hear that that city was taking donations to cover the huge expenses of his memorial. And people donate to it. Why is it such a “worthy cause?” It was a funeral memorial, it has no benefit on the world. Why should we be urged to donate to this? Yes, he contributed a lot to music, I get that. I just do not understand.

  • Good post. I kept saying if as many people were grieved over the King of Kings like they were over the ‘king of pop’…wow what a different place this world would be.
