  • SD Abortion Doctors must say it’s a Human Being

A federal judge has ruled that South Dakota abortion doctors must tell pregnant women the procedure terminates the life of a human being.

U.S. District Judge Karen Schreier ruled Thursday on a lawsuit filed by Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota after an informed consent law passed in 2005 requiring several disclosures to women seeking an abortion.

She says though doctors must make the human being disclosure, the term can be used in a biological sense.

Schreier ruled against the state and a pregnancy counseling center by concluding that pregnant women do not need to be told abortion increases the likelihood of suicide or that they have an existing relationship with the fetus.
