  • Libya

I remember in the late 80′s the US shot down 2 Libyan Jets.  Muhammad Ghadafi threatened revenge.  We are now at war with Libya.
Do you agree with the attack on Libya?
Thanks for your opinions on Libya.  I don’t know how I feel about it.  I understand we need to stop genocide but I don’t know what is the truth.  We’ve been tricked before.  I just hope it doesn’t escalate.  In war it can’t always be contained.

  • Where do you Live?

I went with a group of people and we went to Chamberlain, about 2 1/2 hour drive.  I saw a lot of water in the fields and many of the creeks and steams were over flowing there banks.  It was a great retreat.  My mind is so full of ideas.

(I really enjoyed all the comments of the vacation spots.) – thanks

Yankton is Tom Brokaw home town.  He comes back ever once in awhile.  He was here about a month ago, doing a report on a soldier that was wounded in Iraq.  Corrie Preist was on Oprah with Tom.

  • Juicy Gossip

    Listen by Rene Gutteridge

I really enjoyed this book.  A mystery person is recording the conversations of the people of Marlow, a small supposedly a friendly town.  It shows the power of the tongue and how fast people can turn on each other.  The book exposed bulling and gives an answer to it.  This was one book that had me up in the middle of the night.  I was glued to it as each scene moved fast.  There was not a dull section in Listen.  The main characters were very interesting and life like. I grew to like Frank Meritt, a long time cop friend to the family of Damien Underwood.  Damien, a newspaper columnist, tries to solve the mystery.  Listen has a very surprising ending that I did not figure out.  (And believe me I tried.) I highly recommend this book as it will change the way you communicate.

What do you do when some begins to gossip to you?

  • Nationalities?

I’ve been running across several different nationalities of people.  I’m in charge of a “Furniture Bank”.  We take in furniture and give it away.  Yesterday a guy, his wife and baby came in.  They were looking for a bed and couch.  I asked him his nationality and he told me Somalian.  I then said you must have a lot of stories.  (I was hoping for at least one story) What he told me surprised me.  He told me that his family moved from Somalia to Saudi Arabia.  He then told me that muslims didn’t help muslims but christians help muslims.  It was a few weeks ago I talked to a Kenya guy.  I have a spanish translator on my phone so I can communicate with the non english speaking people.  We also have several Iraqi families here in Yankton.  This might not be a big deal in a bigger city but Yankton is only 14,000 population.

What different types of nationalities do you run across?

  • Guess what this is

Take a guess at what this is and who funded it.  Many of you guessed a Prison. You’re not too far off but it’s not totally correct.  It’s a Justice Centre with detention cells in Austria.

  • Crazy

For Sale Signs on the Public School lawn. That was the craziest thing I’ve ever done.  I just graduated from school and I was with a few friends.  We drove around town looking for “For Sale” signs and put them out front of the High School.  We had several there when we thought a ”Sold” sign would look great amongst the several signs.  We drove all around town and finally found one.  We went back to the school to find the police circling.  We gave that idea up and put the “Sold” sign on a beach along the Missiouri river.

  • Special Child

I played memory game with Kindergartners today.  I watched one boy line all his matches in order.  They had to be just perfect. While another boy just put them in a pile.  Another girl lined hers up but it didn’t have to be perfect, while the other boy had to put his in a way that ran into the girls pile.  I had fun just observing each child and their personality.

When I asked you what your favorite special day was. Many of you spoke of a child being born.  Infants change our lives.   I can’t help but think about the 4 month old child that was killed last week in a town close to us. (The boy friend)   DSS was considering us as a foster family for the 4 month old.  The baby died in the hospital several hours after being there. The Doctor described it as a trauma of a car accident level.
    Prayers for the family.

Who is a special child in your life? Why?

  • Special Day

I was in charge of food supplies when I was aboard USS Joseph Hewes.  We had an unexpected shore time. Something wasn’t working right with the ship engines.  No one was allowed to get off the ship, except those getting provisions.  I called my wife and she came and picked me up.  We had a 1year old daughter at the time.  We spent the day going around getting all the food provisions needed for the ship.  It was a great day, as it is etched so deeply in my mind.  We set sail the next day for a few weeks.

What special day is in your memory?

  • Like Aloneness?

When I was a boy I spent many, many hours by myself.  I would ride my bike up and down the road.  I was ok doing that.  As I got older I began to want to be around people a little more. Now as an adult I don’t like being by myself too much.  My wife is gone to see her Dad in the hospital (about 4 hours from here).  She won’t be back until tomorrow night.  I miss her a lot.  Our house usually has a lot of activity (we have 8 kids, 2 foster kids and a grandson, and people coming and going) but tonight I just have one teen daughter here. (She’s not feeling the best or she wouldn’t be here. She’s sleeping right now) Everyone is staying somewhere else.  (I have 3 older daughters and they divided the kids – my wife’s doings.) So the house is way too quiet and I don’t like it.

Do you spend much time by yourself? Do you like it?

Picture of Kim & me when she was pregnant with our 2nd child.  I see we had matching shoes. I bet she planned that -lol.  I’ve always told her I wear the pants in the family – you just tell me which ones.

Who’s with me and says we should get rid of this “Spring Ahead”, “Fall Back” time adjustment?
    Why do we do it?
