  • Libya

I remember in the late 80′s the US shot down 2 Libyan Jets.  Muhammad Ghadafi threatened revenge.  We are now at war with Libya.
Do you agree with the attack on Libya?
Thanks for your opinions on Libya.  I don’t know how I feel about it.  I understand we need to stop genocide but I don’t know what is the truth.  We’ve been tricked before.  I just hope it doesn’t escalate.  In war it can’t always be contained.

This is a picture of snow being moved.  I’m glad it’s spring. It’s been a long winter.

  • No. NO. This is going to be another one like the Iraq. I can’t believe that even we in Canada are involved with this.

  • No idea at the moment (as I have not been following much of it is the news)

  • No… In this particular case, “Keeping up with the Jones,” is not necessarily the right thing to do.

  • I don’t really know. But the attacks on Libya’s own people by the Libyan army is a big no-no.

  • The U.S. government is stupid.

  • McCain says Obama didn’t do it soon enough. Shows you how disconnected both of them are from the American people.

  • @Mal_P - Thanks – I’m concerned as well.

  • @my_final_username - Thanks – I love to hear you’re opinion.

  • @armnatmom - Interesting thought – didn’t think of it that way.

  • @The_ATM - Thanks for the comment

  • @Randy7777 - I am glad you think as well. As after posting my comment I was hoping you wouldn’t think I am some looney! I hate wars, and the repurcussuins involved to the people in general. It is the inncoent poeple who would get hurt! And I agree when someone said the US is stupid.

    @MedicMark - I so agree with you.

  • Interesting question.. I wont rather keep my opinion to myself.. I’d rather not be hated on xanga..IF you get what I mean?

  • From what I heard today on CNN, the UN resolution #1973 defines this mission as being totally humanitarian. The idea for the no fly zone is for the Gadaffi forces to stop firing on its people. There are no other plans of invasion or direct personal attacks planned on Gaddafi. and resolution #1973 does not call for that either All the bastard really needs to do is cease fire and all will be okay. Problem being is he claimed several times to cease fire and next thing you know he was firing on his people again. I support the plan.

  • If that’s what it takes to make Ghadaffy stop bombing his own people, then okay.  But it absolutely should NOT go any further than that.  No ground troops!  Every time our people get involved over there on the ground, then everything that goes wrong is suddenly all our fault and they will stab us in the back anyway.  That said, the dogs that sell arms to third world dictators or terrorists (almost the same difference) should be hung from lamp posts.

  • @theunknowndarkness1 - You’re not hateable.  Don’t worry.

  • So much for the idea that Republicans start wars and Democrats end them! No, I don’t think it is our duty to attack another nation without consulting Congress because we don’t like a government killing their own people…that is an atrocity I agree but I think unless there is an attack on our soil the US should consult with Congress to make a declaration of War

  • I don’t agree with war at all. I don’t think war really helps anything.

  • The U.S. is in this war for a reason…
There are things we, as the people don’t know.
Wars are going to happen whether we agree or disagree.
Let there come a day when we won’t have wars.
In the meantime….Praying for God’s Peace To come!

  • I think the U.S is in a place of irony really. I read a comment that I agreed on. If we do nothing then we will be denounced by the rest of the world and if we do something, they will consider us meddling. It’s really between a rock and a hard place.
@The_Eyes_Of_A_Painter - Really? That’s good then. I don’t want us to go to war. I don’t think it won’t happen any time soon with Iraq still fresh in our minds.

  • @ThexGodfather -  You can’t go to war without an act of congress.

@The_Eyes_Of_A_Painter -  Yes, this is more HA, than it is war, but it certainly toes the line.

@Shining_Garnet -  The Third Reich would disagree with you.

  • Well I am going to keep my opinion to myself too.  I hope Ghadaffy can be stopped without to much bloodshed.

  • Better than going into Iraq.

  • I’m not sure what I think about it all. I do know that Dems like to blame Repubs for involvement in wars, & think it is rather interesting (for choosing to not use any other word) that Prez O. & Ms. H. Clinton have done some major flip-flops since being in office (after things they said about previous administrations).     I hate war; most of us do; but I can’t help but recall the famous quote by someone (I saw it attributed to more than one) “In Germany, the Nazis came for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak for me.”

  • comprehend why your female mbt shoes good friend was fanning herself using the leather-bound menu at that 5-star bistro you took her to. you realize the mbt sale just one area I’m speaking about. You believed getting her there is on the way to gain you some pussy points, but she drank as well very much red-colored wine (there was your very first clue, the coloring red) and was cheap mbt asleep in the time you drove her home.

  • @yang1815 - Interesting – why better than going into Iraq?

  • @tymedancer - Don’t want to start war in xangaland?

  • @VeritatisAmans - We are at war and there wasn’t an act of congress.  That’s what the senators are complaining about.

  • @Randy7777 -  Read The_Eyes_Of_A_Painter’s comment

  • I have no sympathy for Gaddafi, but why are we getting involved in this civil war? Why not others? Though there seems to be a lot of moral ambiguity about what is right and wrong about this issue, I especially dislike the apparent hypocrisy. Is it because Libya is oil-rich? etc. If we take the idea of state out of this conflict, I do not mind the idea of helping out an oppressed people. Treat others as you wish to be treated. If you are oppressed, wouldn’t you want someone bombing the crap out of your oppressors? Its all good as long as an occupation does not follow. In Tunisia and Egypt, we have seen we don’t always need world police to install democracy (of course, I don’t want to speak too soon ). Next time revolutionary rebels in Burma, Tibet, and various African countries flare up, I’d like to see the international community prevent their governments from slaughtering their people as well. Won’t happen though.

  • Spring has sprung, the grass is ris…

  • @Randy7777 - No desire in a sustained military intervention first of all. Secondly, it seems that going into Iraq was a little more selfish (for the American people) when compared to Libya (for the Libyans).

  • Obama is a proven incompetent boob. So of course I object to US involvement in the Libya attack. When it goes to hell in a hand basket like everything else he’s touched Americans are going to start dying.

It’s bad enough that he’s impoverished us and our great grand kids with his civilization busting deficit spending.

  • @yang1815 - Selfish going into Iraq?  I’m not sure the military and the cost for them would agree.

  • @Randy7777 - I’m not talking about the military. It’s not like the armed forces decided to just go into Iraq themselves. I have the utmost respect for the men and women serving in the armed forces of the United States and I appreciate their sacrifices and efforts to protect our country.

I’m talking about the reason behind making the decision to go into Iraq vs. going into Libya: the supposedly WMD vs. hmmm, crazed leader bombing his own country.

  • I’d like to see Gadhafy gone. I am sick of the stupid pundits saying- “But, he’s a legitimate leader. We need to leave him alone. Saddam wasn’t all that bad. We need a world with multiple systems.” Funny, these ivory tower jerks ALL LIVE IN THE U.S. or U.K., except Vladimir Putin. But, he’s a different kettle of sharks.

  • @cyberbear - MoMar has been crazy for decades and he’s been brutal towards his people.  Something is happening beyond our comprehension – I’m very concerned.  We are not being told everything.  I agree with you Ghadafi does need to go.  So does the Nigerian leader that’s allowing Christians to be butchered.  and…..

  • @yang1815 - OK – I got you.  Thanks for clearing that up.  No doubt we went into Iraq to keep oil prices down … ummm - makes me wonder our motive now.  Nigerian leader is allowing the butchering of his countrymen right now and we do nothing?  What causes us to act?  It’s not a secret that Libya has a lot of oil.

  • @Randy7777 - Exactly. And that’s what’s messed up. Although Libya does have a lot of oil, to me, it’s a little justified.

  • @Randy7777 - Should’ve just been straight up with Iraq you know? Okay, we’re going in to take over the country because Saddam threatens to do A B and C to hike the price oil, which would just do D E and F to the world economy. People would understand, no? There’s anti-trust laws and all…

  • @yang1815 - Jury is still out with me.  You could be exactly right.

  • @Randy7777 -
Funny thing about Goodluck Jonathan; he’s a Christian himself. What gives?

  • @cyberbear - He calls himself a Christian – There’s not enough evidence to convict him of that.  He’s a masterful politician that’s in the right place at the right time.  Politicians seem to just disappear over there.

  • @Randy7777 -
What is really needed is a sense of priority. The Niger Delta is among the most hideously ignored places on Earth. It’s people need, and deserve, a concerted international effort to get the place made whole again- at least on the level of a Marshall Plan.

  • I don’t have all the information on the situation, because 1) I live in the UK and 2) I don’t have a telly. However, from my point of view, the US shouldn’t be involved. This isn’t our problem. Yes, genocide is an awful thing, but it happens in other places, too, and no one does anything about it. Maybe the rest of the world will think America is just terrible for not stepping in and helping. But why does it matter what other countries think?

But I’m sure there are things at work that I don’t know about or understand. And it doesn’t matter what I think anyway. I’m just praying for no more bloodshed and for peace.

  • @TheFifthHero - Thanks for your viewpoint – I value it.
