  • Rapture

Since it seems like everyone is talking about the rapture, I’ll jump on the bandwagon.  I joked around with my Pastor this morning and told him not to play a joke on us and not show up tommorrow.  We had a discussion of this topic this morning at our Men’s group.  Jesus predicted that there would be those that will falsely report Christ’s appearance. He said, “Don’t believe them.”  A lot of fun is being made of these doomsdayers and probally rightly so.  But the real issue is serious.

Do you believe that the rapture will happen someday?

  • Not in my lifetime.

  • yes, you never know-that is cute about your preacher. lol lol lol

  • The way most people understand the rapture is actually a fairly new concept… and in my opinion, based on misinterpretation and misuse of the context of the text. I believe bodies will rise from the dead. I believe we will witness Christ and there will be a renewed earth. I don’t think we will disappear though.

  • Not really, but who knows? I don’t think I am going to Hell though, and no one can convince me otherwise.

  • I believe in the Second Coming….. shows over

  • No, I don’t believe it will happen.

  • Really non committal about the whole thing. But if and when it does, I really don’t think there’s going to be a lot of fanfare over it. It’s just going to happen, and without warning. So all those people who were out there running around at the last minute, getting “right with God” hoping to be chosen, can sit back and relax. They’ll continue with their lives as if nothing happened. And then when they show up in church tomorrow, they can all declare how they were ready and prepared.

    I don’t think you’re in this percentile though………

  • I don’t believe in the rapture; I do believe that Yahshua will return soon, though, and after us believers have truly proven ourselves by NOT taking the mark of the beast, we will reign in Heaven with Yahshua & YHWH.

  • @Babyboomerjill - He got a kick out of it.

  • @jmallory - I look forward to the day when Jesus rules in His kingdom on this earth.

  • I am a non-believer, so no, I do not believe in the rapture. However, I do believe that the world as we know it will end. I don’t think it will happen in my lifetime, or even 50 years from now. But I bet it will happen.

  • I believe in the rapture and hope that its in my lifetime. I think it would be cool to be taken away like Enoch was and to “walk with God.” (I think that’s the phrase, forgive me if I’m wrong.)

  • I believe Jesus will return. Even after much study I don’t quite know if the church will be raptured. I don’t believe you can predict the day or the hour of Christ’s return.
I am saddened by many responses I have seen out there, where unbelievers joyfully proclaim they will be in hell…like it is a party. Every good thing in life is God, the absence of God will be anything but fun.

  • @Veronica_Leigh - I agree and that would be my wish as well.

  • nope. agnostic!

  • @ABAHM - I can’t imagine life without God, specifically Jesus.

  • Looking at Revelations, I don’t see anything about a rapture in the end times. No mass disappearance of Christians or anything, at least not before the great worldwide earthquake, which obviously hasn’t happened yet. I believe the end of the world will happen as written in Revelations, but not anytime soon, and this idea of the rapture I don’t think will be a part of it.

  • @TheBlueNinjaTiger – thanks for commenting. I see the rapture mentioned in 1 Thes. As caught up

  • The actual word “rapture” is not used by that term in Scripture, but there is a description of it. I can’t quote chapter and verse right now. However, according to another epistle attributed to St. Paul (cited by Randy), Jesus will appear in the sky and those Christians who are living will be “caught up” to meet him. Also, if I’m not mistaken (it’s been a long time since my class in eschatology), I believe there is something about the “dead in Christ” rising first to meet him in the air. At this time, Jesus comes not to set foot on earth, but to take those he has “caught up” back to heaven. This is the reference for what is termed ”the rapture”. However, there is disagreement over when this “rapture” will happen in relation to the terrible tribulation which leads to the end.. Some scholars believe Christians will be spared the terrible tribulation by being “raptured”. That’s the “pre-trib view”. Others believe there is evidence that Christians will experience 1/2 of the tribulation before Jesus takes them. That’s the “mid-trib” view. Still others believe Christians will go through the tribulation. But the “rapture” is not the same as the end of the world or the Second Coming. At the Second Coming, Jesus will return with angels and all the saints & believers to wage a final war against Satan and his demon army. These will be defeated and then the world will be destroyed completely, possibly by fire. However, I believe Revelation also includes a hopeful message about “a new Heaven and a new Earth”. I haven’t looked this up, I’m just going by my memory of what I learned, so if my timeline or events are off, I’ll stand corrected. Oh, yes, I believe all this will happen in some form, but I don’t know when and neither does anybody else. Some people do think that there are “signs” that are leading up to ”the last days”. The point of all this anyway, as far as I’m concerned, is that we need to do what is good and right while we have the time, including spreading the Gospel with words and deeds.  ~~Blessings ‘n Cheers
