  • Insane

The man who mass killed many people in Arizona will never see a court room because a judge determined him insane.

Do you agree with the US insanity laws?

  • I do believe some people are truly insane; but if their insanity makes them a danger to society, then action still needs to be taken to ensure that in their insanity, they don’t harm anyone.

  • Well, I’m not sure exactly what the laws are, but there is no doubt in my mind that he is insane. Whether he is in jail or in a mental home, we need to pray for him.

  • I believe some people truly just need help, but I don’t agree with all the current classifications of insanity per the DSV.

  • It’s a really tricky issue. Some people are incapacitated by their mental illnesses and can’t be blamed for their actions. But then you have someone like Ted Bundy, who in order to kill that many people has to have issues too, but is perfectly capable of understanding what he’s doing. It’s a very fine line, I think, and I don’t know if they’ll ever really figure out how to tread it.

  • I completely agree with the first comment.

    Family Feud Question: Diet Coke.

  • Insanity law ? Sounds like a bunch of junk to me. If their smart enough to do the crime they are sane enough to do the time.

  • If they are insane, there has to be a law to protect the public from these insane people.

  • I don’t know. I am not even aware what they are now and really do not want to know. Hubby came home from Nam with a head injury and schizo-affective disorder with secondary bipolar on top of the all of the physical and medical challenges he lives with on a daily basis he deals with that. He takes his medications and has been in balance for a long time. The VA takes care of all of his medical and mental health needs and they do a good job.
If my family and friends were a tv program we would be laugh in, because we love life and love to laugh, and we do laugh most of the time.

  • Honestly, I think all of us have just a little of that insanity, but for some people it can go completely uncontrolled. I mean, just because someone is deemed “insane,” does that mean they cannot be punished or that it is not logical to punish them? Do insane people not learn from their experiences? I don’t know the justification here really. It’s obvious we can’t all be treated equally in all situations, but I don’t know how to handle it either.

  • As long as he’s sedated and tied up in a straightjacket in an asylum for the rest of his life, I’m satisfied. But still, for the sake of those effected by his actions he should be deemed guilty.

  • Personally, I think all murder is insane, but my definition doesn ‘t fit the legal definition. The insanity issue is difficult. If a person really is so damaged mentally/emotionally that he/she is not in touch with reality, the difference between right and wrong, what should be done? It’s difficult to balance justice and mercy. Society must be protected, so the person needs to be incarcerated; but it should be in a mental instutiion, not in a jail. Jails are not equipped to handle those who are truly mentally ill. I don’t know who to cite as source of this statement, but I am aware of it: “There can be no justice without mercy or mercy without justice.” What about a determination of “guilty by reason of insanity” instead of “not guilty by reason of insanity.”?

I don’t know what TV program my family/friends would be. Maybe I should ask my daughters? ~~Blessings ‘n Cheers

  • I do think there are insane people, and I think it’s good that he is being kept away from innocent people… But I don’t know enough about the story to say anything else.
What confuses me are these stories I keep hearing of pedophiles, rapists, and murderers that keep getting let out of jail after a few years, not just once either, and end up raping and killing after they are let out. Ugh…

  • Cherry coke from a can.

  • Well I think he is going to go through treatment to see if they can make him sane enough to face a trial. This guy was pretty messed in the head, but it still appears to be premeditated. It’s hard to say.

  • @Tymedancer_is_Grannyinboxers - Laugh In – that was a great funny show.

  • @makesenseofmadness - I suppose you’re right.  We all have the capability of “loosing it”.

  • @TheSpiffyToaster - Yes  – there needs to be justice.

  • @vangelicmonk - Yes – anyone has to be messed up to do what he did.
