  • Inter Conflict

I’m reading a book on, “How to Write Better”.  One of the suggestions the author talks about is to have the main character go through some kind of personal inter conflict.  I’ve thought about all the books I’ve read and I agree.  I think as humans we’re always trying to work something out within ourselves.

What kind of Inter Conflict in a character would make a good read?

Question:  If I was a facial expression I would be _______________ Why?

  • I would be curiousity/deep thought…. or joy! :)

  • Inner Conflict: Something that hasn’t been done before. If I could think of one, well, then I’d be a writer. lol

If I was a facial expression I would be an eye-roll because I tend to roll my eyes a lot… or rather I come into contact with a lot of eye roll worthy people. One or the other.

  • @TiredSoVeryTired - I like you’re sense of humor.  I had a lady roll her eyes at me after she walked out in front of me and I rolled the van closer to her. – lol

  • @mypandabear - mystery – keep people wondering.

  • I’d be that face with one eyebrow raised. ha.

  • @Randy7777 - lol Thanks. FTR, I don’t eye roll just when I’m annoyed, I do it bad when I have to think too. So, somebody will ask me a question and if I need to think it looks like I’m rolling my eyes at them, but I’m not! I swear! (Well, depending on the question I might be.)

  • I like conflicts where ordinary people living boring lives suddenly are faced with a threat that can be avoided only by abandoning all of their principles, values and integrity. The inner conflict is them getting to their actual real live choice and what were the consequences if they maintained their integrity or abandoned them. Hard Choices.

Like your friend here, my right eyebrow is raised sometimes.

  • @TiredSoVeryTired - LOL – Are you rolling your eyes now at me? – Just kidding.  My teen daughter does that a lot also.  I get a kick out of it.  My wife doesn’t.

  • @ANVRSADDAY - Fighting with inner values – Yes

  • Facial expression — anything from a big grin to a laugh. Why? ‘Cause I love humor, comedy & also because laughter is good for humans, releases endorphins. ~~Blessings ‘n Cheers

  • @Randy7777 - Naw, it was just my contacts bugging me! lol haha Just kidding. I hate it when my daughter does it too, but she does it because she’s convinced I’m stupid. I make her roll her eyes again when she finds out that I was right. lol

  • I’d probably be an eye rolling griner…cause I tend to be a tad sarcastic at times and a lot of people just don’t understand!

  • At the moment I’m thinking about straight-up schizophrenia, lol. Nothing too crazy, though. I’d like to read about someone who’s madly cheerful and optimistic on one side and maybe ultra serious on the other? Wait– I know people like that.

As for the facial expression question, well, funny enough, I’ve been called smiley by friends before so I’ll go with that.

I honestly love how thought-provoking and light-hearted your posts can be. I admit I’ve been away for a while but your blog does bring-out something completely different from the rest. Thanks to Tukha’s latest post, I finally said it. And speaking of which, I’d like to thank you for your kind words; they sure made me smile.

    I hope you’re having a great night.

  • @dingdongdingbat – understanding is over rated

  • I would write about Superman’s inner conflict as a superhero. Because Superman is really weaker than we think and he’s got tons of inner issues. Just look at the guy as Clark Kent. Need I say more ?

  • @The_Eyes_Of_A_Painter - Interesting – Not much confidence, shy – Clark Kent.

  • @DonnaLou - I like a good laugh also.

  • @nov_way - Thanks – xanga is a great way to learn about people.  I like that.  Thanks for your kind words.  Yes – the night is going good.  The babies are almost done eating and not too much has gotten on the floor -lol

  • @TiredSoVeryTired - My teen never answers me when I say, “Do I look stupid?”  -lol It reminds me of the scene in Bug’s Life where Hopper asks the ants the same question.

  • I think inner conflicts come with every character in stories. There is a lot going on, even if there aren’t details; it’s easy to picture the conflicts anyway. I mean, if I just read a book and no one had problems, it would be boring. :P

  • haha That IS quite good. I’m glad.

  • Maybe something s/he has to do but it goes against everything s/he believes in.

  • I think a good inner conflict would be learning who the person really is. If I were a facial expression I would be a grin because I love laughter.

  • I agree with the book as well. it’s always interesting to see how a person deals with the conflicts happening in their lives.

if I was a facial expression, I would be a smile because I always try to be positive and try to make other people happy too! :) plus, smiles instantly makes any person look a lot prettier. :)

  • @bittersweetreflections - So true – nothing like a smile to brighten a day.

  • If I was a facial expression, I’d be ANGERRR!!!! D:< lol jussst kidding! I’d probably be an expression of wonder! :3

And inner conflict…hmm… I really don’t know… what defines an inner conflict? O.o Like when a person doesn’t like something about himself?
