When I read our nation’s early history I see what a miracle it was that this country even survived it’s infancy.  A powerful nation was set on destroying the USA. This nation failed.  I may not always like what happens politically but I love the system we have.  The balances of power makes us great.  The flag does stand for freedom.  I was so proud to serve this nation in the Navy under the Commander and Chief, President Reagan.

What does this country mean to you?

Word of the day: Arachnoleptic Fit @joyouswind
I think it would be funny to see a arachnolepitc fit.

    What is this?
Clues:  It’s like a city but is not a city.
    FOD is the enemy
You can ask yes and no questions to find out what this is.

Flood Update:  There are many homes that have been flooded in this area.  We have a cabin rented in a few weeks.  Earlier in the week P & D reported that the road to White Crain will flood.  We drove out there last night and the water was really close. We asked the Park Ranger and she assured us it wouldn’t flood.

  • We were talking about the terrible heat out west this morning and marveling at the pioneers who traveled across the desert and the prairies, through blizzards and over the mountains and fought the Indians and the Mexicans so they could build a little home and have a piece of land and I said, “Gotta hand it to the pioneers!” Even those who come today, legally or illegally, are courageous and strong withstanding God knows what deprivation and terror for the very same reasons: a home, maybe a little piece of land and, yes, freedom. Great people, great country! Boom! BOOM!!

  • @nurseynursey - Pioneers – What a group of people.  They probally didn’t have a clue what trails they were blazing for us.

  • It’s quite difficult to put into words what this country means to me. I’m DAR on both sides of my family, with proud military service in both, and my family raised me to treasure the ideals of this country, the life, the symbolism, the flaws and virtues, the breathless landscapes, the promise of its people, the Constitution, the Federalist papers, the rugged determination of the settlers to survive and prosper against incredible odds, the sacrifice of all those who laid down their lives in war or on the trails which helped this country become what it is today. Of course I don’t think anyone needs to have DAR or military family to cherish this country. That’s just my background.

While it pains me to see what is happening in some parts of this country, I still love her with all my heart.

  • @GeneralRapunzel - Thanks – America is a great nation.

  • God Bless America!

  • If we were a civilized nation, we would abolish “Independence Day”. Patriotism is a savage sentiment and our so-called “independence” lead to the enslavement of millions of people here and abroad. The slaves who were brought here against their will certainly weren’t free nor were the Japanese-American citizens we interned during World War II nor are many good people of Mexican descent who cross our border to pursue the American Dream that they later find is only open to white Christians.

Eff this country, it’s flag, and it’s VIP only brand “freedom”.

  • Happy Independance day to you

  • For me, America means freedom. That is why it saddens me that we Americans are losing our freedoms. Anyway, Happy Independence Day to you all. And God Bless America.

  • Freedom……..

  • Its easy to find faults and point fingers at America. We are not perfect society, but within the polished facet of this diamind I call America, with its riches, power struggles and centrisms. What makes it great are its people. People who have the spirit to survive against all odds and work hard and make a name for themselves. America offers this possibility even today for the people of the world. Thats why despite all the negative stuff that is thrown out there about our great country. The spuirit is still alive and this great country still offers all of us a possibility to be and become someone and something.

I find it ironic that those that find so many faults in this great country of ours still remain here. If the hate it so much, why don’t they ship out ? Simple, there isn’t any place else in the world like America.

  • Reagan was a good president. Didn’t you say you read every book on his ? or was that someone else?

  • To me, this country means… CHEESEBURGERS. :D

  • I’m from Nj, I take fresh supplies for granted.

  • OMGAAHHH IT”S JULY?!?!?!

  • This sounds weird, but the first time I could clearly see the USA was when I lived in another country for four months…I felt almost alien to my own country and it gave me a fresh perspective. Although I was glad to eventually be home when I came back, I felt differently because I had been outside of the bottle that contained me my whole life.

  • Is it a Naval Air Station? Cuz FOD is it’s natural enemy and it has everything a city has… church, bank, NEX, bowling alley, swimming pool, etc.

This country means freedom to me, the kind that a lot of people never get to see.

  • @TiredSoVeryTired – no – not a Naval Air Station

  • @makesenseofmadness – that’s not strange at all. I grew to appreciate America even more afteer returning from Africa

  • @Babyboomerjill – Yes. I like reading anything about Reagan

  • @The_Eyes_Of_A_Painter – proud to be an American along side of you

  • @Veronica_Leigh – yes I want my children to have the same freedoms I had

  • @SKANLYN – you see a different America than I see

  • The day will come when our republic will also end, (probably in much less time than it took Rome to do so) but I believe it will be a long time before another nation that embraces liberty through democratic freedom will ever rise so high. The United States of America will ever be a keynote in history, never a footnote.

  • @BookMark61 - Well hopefully not soon.  I agree with you, we won’t fall from without but from within.

  • It’s actually illegal in the state of Virginia to be a dissident. I was run out of it. I didn’t know this.  I learned the hard way.  We’re great because of our brainwashing.  Only in America would someone believe all of the lies.  It is a contradiction state based on abstract conformity, especially of opposites.

I’m only a dissident because that’s how I was raised with liberal education.  It’s like programming to hate myself and this country.  I even blogged about it.

I served between 2006-2009 in the army.  I miss it.  I got out for schizophrenia, which I guess I’m still battling.  Maybe that’s what made me so crabby.
