Shut up

I rarely say this word to anyone, but I have used it on occasions when I needed to. It’s a word I do say in my mind silently sometimes when I’m listening to someone. Note the word “listening” because probaly the other person isn’t letting any words come out of my mouth and they are talking nonsense. I say it in rapid succession that is equivalent to putting my fingers in my ears. I used it last night during the President’s speech because of the blame game. I used it after his speech when Boehner was speaking because of the republicans tactic of pushing the debt problem into political timing.Do you use the word shut up?

I use the terms ’hush’ or ‘be quiet’. Sometimes the look on my face as I say those words can be interpreted to mean ‘shut up’….
Blaming others is a sign of psychological dysfunction. Blaming others is an act of giving up responsibility and power over one’s own actions and assigning responsibility to others. That the President of the United States is consciously rendering himself powerless is astonishing.
As the President of United States he should be providing vigorous and powerful leadership.
oh shut up… there, i just used them, lol XD
@LoBornlytesThoughtPalace - When this President is well gone qho will we then say shut up too. A President no matter what party afiliation he belongs to is always given the blame and rightly so, since he is the leader. But, under rough waters there are always the sharks who prey on the weak to gain power. This shut up game has been in the works since the start of our great country. Time we stopped pointing the finger and telling others to shut up and listen to whats best for our country. That goes to both sides of the aisle.
@The_Eyes_Of_A_Painter - I am not an advocate of shut up. I am an advocate for the truth. And the truth is that there is something profoundly wrong with Barack O’Bama. He is demonstrating signs of deep psychological imbalance.
And no matter what anyone thought of President Bush, that man was a rock. He was competent and emotionally stable.
When my kids were growing up they weren’t allowed to say shut up to each other, only to the dog. When I was little my mother wouldn’t let my brother and me call each other liars, so we spelled it backwards and called each other rails.
I only say it in a joking way such as “Shuddap!”
I only use it if there’s an emergency and I can’t get the other person to stop asking useless questions. As an adult, I think I have only used it once or twice. That way, if I say something like that, people know the situation is serious and they must pay attention.
lol
when I worked pediatrics I would hear the parents tell their child- 3 yr old to stuff it! that mad me mad and I wanted to say shutup to them but what good would that do?
Yes but I use it in a playful way. Not to actually tell someone to shut up. I’ve stopped watching all that debt crisis stuff.
“Shut up” is a bad word in our house. We don’t let the kids say it and if one of them does, someone always runs and tells! That being said, like with any bad word, it occasionally slips out.
We don’t usually use Shut up in our house either. The other night our neighbors had a drunken party ALL night. They were yelling and screaming obscenities out on the deck in the middle of the night. I went out on our deck and asked them to stop and go inside. They ignored me, so I said SHUT UP very loudly. They all stopped and turned to look over at me. They picked right up again, but it did stop them for a moment.
Rarely do I say ‘shut up”. I have to be pretty aggravated and angry.
Sheket Bevakashah!
95% of the time when joking, 5% of the time for real but in my head. Let the person finish their thoughts, and if you must interrupt, there are nicer ways.
I hate “shut up.” As a child, I was not allowed to utter that.
Big Trouble in little china was the best movie ever.
Do not like that at all! Very rude to say “shut up” to someone but saying it to the tv set is okay right?
@Lucy_or_Ethel - That’s the question of the day.
@stephensmustang - That’s true with me also.
@armnatmom - I hear you on “the look”. It stops my kids from talking -lol
@LoBornlytesThoughtPalace - Agreed
@The_Eyes_Of_A_Painter - Standing up and applauding.
@ata_grandma - That’s funny – can tell the dog to shut up.
@Babyboomerjill - True
@NightlyDreams - You’re wise by not watching the debt stuff.
@ABAHM - My wife asked me why I was laughing when I read your post – I told her what you said. lol
I use this all the time, but as a joke. When I’m actually mad, I’ll drop a few bombs.
I dunno. That has to be the most rarely used phrase in my vernacular. I don’t say it 90% of the times when I want to.
When I truly feel it’s warranted, it never comes out as nice as “shut up” :3. Usually an expletive or two get thrown in, for emphasis’ sake.
i use it more often than you do, hence it is not as effective.
Well, you asked. My take is that I do not like that phrase and I avoid it. Though I have to confess I might feel like saying it. I’m most tempted when a commercial pitch is annoying, I guess. ~~Blessings & Cheers
It’s two words.
