Hurricane

Prayers go out to those in the path of Irene. I’ve been through one hurricane and that was enough for me. Helena hit Gulfport, MS with a lot of power. We had just moved from one part of the town to another. The trailer we previously lived in was totally destroyed. In fact the entire trailer court was gone. The trailer we lived in at the time didn’t have too much damage. What I was impressed with was the eye of the hurricane. I went out into the middle of it and it was so beautiful. The hurricane trapped many colorful carribean birds.
Have you been in a hurricane? Experiences? Are you in Irene’s path?

I was in a Hurricane once. It’s funny I can say I have been in a Hurricane and I’m from Illinois.. LOL. I honestly think it was AWESOME. I remember we opened the door at the VERY start of the Hurricane and me and my dad both had to put all our weight on the front door to close it back up, rain was POURING in, it was crazy. Intense, but cool… I thought. It was only a category one though, nothing too bad.
Scary. My prayers are with many today also.
I live in Michigan, so no hurricanes for me, though we get tornadoes every so often. I’ve never experienced one though.
Prayers are for those in Irene’s path. The photo on NASA looked scary.
My family and I are in Irene’s path. Your experience makes it sound so beautiful! I’ve never been in the eye and we won’t be today, since the eye is going to pass us by several miles to the east. It’s not supposed to slam us the way it will the folks on the coast but I have no doubt it will knock out our power and break some stuff.
I hope that everyone made it out of the hurricane you experienced alive and well. Sucks about the trailer, though.
I have trouble getting through thunderstorms. I’m afraid a hurricane would be way too much.
I have never been in a hurricane. I have been praying for all the East Coast.
Waiting for Irene to arrive here. Will let you know how it goes.
I’m on the Western edge of Irene’s predicted path and expect to lose power sometime later today. I’m from Honolulu originally, so hurricanes are not a new experience for me. This is about my fourth hurricane or so, although I’ve never been in one that was particularly severe; there was a thunderstorm in this area last Summer that was far, far worse than any hurricane I’ve ever experienced. No hurricane I’ve ever been thru has caused any damage to any residence I’ve lived in, despite winds gusting up to 50 or 60 miles per hour. However, I have commonly experienced extended power failures. The last hurricane I went thru, Isabel in 2003, knocked out the power to my home for about four days.
I’m 20 miles away to the west from Irene’s projected path in New Jersey, though the variations and constant changes in direction could very well lead it over me. This is my first hurricane. Though i have taken precautions and i am concerned, i am not fretting too much over it, considering it is expected to be a low-end category 1 by the time it reaches us. I’m just worried about the power going out.
Thank you for your prayers.
We lived in Ft.Walton Beach,FL although everyone was preparing for an approaching hurricane and boarding up windows it missed us. We received powerful rain and much wind but not the actual hurricane. For a little Iowa farm girl it was very exciting though scary. At least with a hurricane you have time to prepare, with a tornado it can happen so quickly you are lucky to make it to a basement before it hits. Neither are good.
I’ve been in so many that you can define me as a professional storm chaser
No, I have not been in a hurricane. I certainly don’t want to be in one. The closest experience would be the time our family and two friends were sailing a final day around the Virgin Islands. A tropical depression was forming in advance of the hurricane that year. The wind and rain made visibility very poor on way back to port at St. Thomas. That was close enough. I heard once that a tornado was supposed to have hit the town in which I spent my childhood, but I don’t remember it. I have a friend in N.C. who told me that where she and her daughter are in the state probably wouldn’t be impacted. I hope she’s right. My daughter lives in MD, and I’m not sure about the danger where she lives. She wrote about it humorously on Facebook. My prayers go out for all who will be affected by Irene. ~~Blessings, Prayers ‘n Cheers
yep, when i was small went through hurricane hugo in NC. it was really bad. today with Irene we only experienced strong wind…
We’re getting it here in Pennsylvania. Lots of rain and pretty windy. I’ve never been in a hurricane before.
@konni - Hugo was really bad. -so much destruction.
@Shining_Garnet - Best wishes to you
@DonnaLou - Tropical storm would be bad enough.
@The_Eyes_Of_A_Painter - LOL
@Lucy_or_Ethel - Glad you got missed.
@CaptainChoi94 - Wishing you the best – Sounds like it’s going fast now. That’s good
@TheSchizoidMan - Wishing you the best
@ZombieMom_Speaks - Wishing you the best – yes it was so beautiful and serene
@aprylg - So much power in a hurricane
@Randy7777 - Much to my surprise, I had electricity this morning, and despite widespread outages throughout the county, I still have power even now. I’m usually one of the first to get dumped on in a situation like this. According to the clocks, I did have an outage sometime last night while I was asleep, but I don’t know when or how long it was.
I was praying–now praying for those who had problems..were struck hard.
