  • Canning

    My wife loves to can food.  She made spaghetti sauce, salsa, tomato jelly, corn and tomatoes.  

    Do you can food or store up food?

  • My dad cans salsa every year. He normally sends some home with me. I can’t wait to get some this year!

  • I used to feel such satisfaction when I canned and froze the bounty from our garden and fruit trees. With the children raised and with homes and gardens of their own we no longer need such surplus. Matter of fact we have a daughter-in-law who shares her produce with us. As far as storing up food I do keep my cupboards and little freezer well stocked.

  • hot sauce! I wish I did -I would save money -we like Hell on the Red and yes, there is a little devil on the jar.

  • i don’t can, but i sure like to eat it from all my friends that pass them along to me!! someday i tell myself i’m going to do it~ and grow all my own veggies too. :)

  • I heard a clever little joke recently: A man is driving down a country highway and sees a sign- “Tomatoes for Sale.” He pulls over and sees the farmer standing in an enormous tomato patch with hundreds of tomatoes. He asked the farmer, “What will you do if you don’t sell all these tomatoes?” The farmer answered matter-of-factly, “We eat what we can and what we can’t, we can.”

  • I buy almost entirely nonperishable food, to avoid spoilage. I hate waste of any kind, but I especially hate wasting food.

  • I hope I marry a man like your wife .

  • This year we had an over abundance amount of tomatoes, so we decided to make sauce. We goofed along the way and ended up with tomato soup. Still, tastes good. :~)

  • Last year I canned tomato relish. It was pretty great. But I don’t know enough about canning to try anything else.

  • Wonderful. I used to can all summer, everything from peaches to tomatoes. I used to can pickles and dill green beans. We had a big outdoor stove that was plugged into an electrical outlet through the basement window and had big tubs for canning, and a big outdoor tub with running water for blanching tomatoes when we were canning them. Ahh yes, I remember the days of canning with great fondness.

  • My mom used to can food when I was a kid. She said she is going to start doing it again.

  • It’s easy to store and use. You may be rich from it.
