Romney Falls for April Fools’ Joke
MILWAUKEE–It’s easy to forget what day it is on the campaign trail. Even April Fools’ Day.
Before speaking to voters at a pancake breakfast here, GOP presidential front-runner Mitt Romney waited behind a black curtain as Rep. Paul Ryan and Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson stepped out to introduce him.
“My staff says to me…we didn’t get much of a turnout this morning, it’s really small, but it will be okay, it will be okay. And so I hear Paul Ryan goes out…he’s down there, ‘And so now, let’s welcome Ron Johnson, and Mitt Romney, the next president of the United States,’” Mr. Romney said Sunday.
Messrs. Ryan and Johnson, with the help of Romney staff members, lured the candidate into a ballroom all set up for a campaign rally. The draping was hanging. The sound system was on. But there were no voters.
Instead, Mr. Romney, his face turning pink, was met by a handful of staffers using their cell phones to record the moment.
“It’s completely empty. There’s nobody there. I thought, oh boy, this is gonna look really bad on the evening news, let me tell you,” Mr. Romney said later.
Family members say the candidate is a prankster as well, and he hinted he’s plotting some revenge. “You guys – this is known as forgive but remember,” he joked.
As he later gave a gracious, and relieved, welcome to the crowd that gathered for his actual event, Mr. Romney said:
“Thank heavens we’ve got some people in the room this morning. I appreciate it!”
Did you play an April Fool’s joke on anyone?

Didn’t do anything for April Fool’s as it isn’t particularly celebrated here in Thailand, although we were fooled: one friend, a Thai man who moved to Germany with his partner two years ago, announced on facebook that the sex realignment surgery had been a success and he really hoped that his friends would support him as he finally had a body that matched how he felt inside. I tell you, we took a few minutes cross-checking his previous posts and the posts of his partner before we figured out that it was an April Fool’s joke.
@christao408 - That’s funny
April Fools and pranks in general all seem so sadistic to me. I don’t see the humor in making someone suffer so intensely just for the heck of it.
