Disaster
I talked to a guy a few weeks ago who told me he lived in Grand Junctions, Colorado. He told me that Grand Junctions has no natural disasters. No tornados, no blizzards, no etc. I was surprised. I thought of that when I read the news this morning about the earth quakes that are now causing Tsunami warnings in Indonesia.
What natural disasters happen in your area?

Lightening blows the tops off of the trees around our house just like an artillery barrage. We’re lucky no one has been hurt and that there has been no property damage.
Here in Florida, we get hurricanes. Usually don’t get hit directly in our area, but they cause some pretty wicked bad storms for us.
We get a strong wind every now and then. We had a lot of snowfall this year unlike any time before in the last 50 years,especially in areas where it never snows. Not much else though.
Tornadoes.
Tornadoes, flash floods, and wildfires. I’m in Austin, TX.
Floods for people living in the valleys, landslides for people living above. Snow/ice shuts down a lot of roads pretty quickly, too.
You would be surprised to hear that desert areas have flash floods. Los Angeles has cemented the river areas and some areas will flood due to the backing up of storm drains.
Quite a while ago a freak windstorm hit and lot of trees fell down. Beachgoes might also be sucked out to sea by rip tides. (they strategically place lifeguard stations near riptide areas.
We have an occasional blizzard or ice storm…
Is there really such a thing as a part of Colorado that isn’t subject to blizzards?
earthquakes but nothing really serious so far
Tornados sometimes. Last year there was flooding.
@sometimestheycomebackanyway - Lightning – wow
@atticusfin - I’ve been in one hurricane – enough for me.
@KnightInCROATIANarmor - .You must of gotten all the snow we usually do. -We had very little snow this year.
@ata_grandma - Scary
@Randy7777 - That would explain a lot
@WaitingToShrug - Flash floods – I’ve never had to experience that.
@vickevlar - Landslides – sounds scary.
@PPhilip - That does surprise me.
@f5ye_angel5 - I felt one earthquake – a very small one. Scared me
@yourkbear - I was surprised to hear him tell me about that part of Colorado.
@Shining_Garnet - We had a little flooding around here last year – not too bad.
I live in Grand Junction, Colorado! We get occasional floods down near the rivers, and flash floods happen in the gullies and canyons at times, because snow melt can happen fast up on the mesas (flat-topped mountains). We sometimes experience very slight earthquakes (we are only a few hours from the Rockies, after all), but we don’t usually feel them. Tornadoes occur nearby every few decades. Over all, though, wildfires and blizzards are the only serious natural disasters around here. It’s pretty dang nice in this valley–it’s an oasis of fruit orchards in the high desert!
