President Obama is misusing gays for his political agenda. He said the issue of gay marriage should be left to the states. That is an admission that North Carolina acted properly.
I think President Obama has contempt for gays and just said what he did in such a way as to get them to open their wallets.
Nicely timed announcement of the Prescient, right before a big Hollywood bash, I’m just sayin’. When he overshadowed Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross with the golden rule he showed his ignorance of the Christian faith.
Some Of My Thoughts: Marriage is between a MALE Man and a FEMALE Woman. I believe that well before I read what a marriage was according to the Bible. God created marriage… As for what humanity says…Well…We see what’s out there. I go on what that Bible says about marriage. That’s what I believe.
I’m against it, but I know there’s not much we can do to stop it if the bill ever comes to Croatian parliament. Same sex marriage can only be delayed for so long.
President Obama put his hand on a Bible and swore to uphold the Constitution, he didn’t put his hand on the Constitution and swear to uphold the Bible.
Well, he seems quite happy with his first wife, so I’d say he knows something about marriage.
I’m in favor of same-sex marriage, although its not a “hot button” issue for me.. I haven’t read what Obama actually said, so I don’t know what exactly he’s doing with scripture (if anything).
@TheSchizoidMan - What he’s doing with scripture? Nothing at all.
@GodlessLiberal - Yeah, just like gay marriage too. Obama did nothing at all.
@GodlessLiberal - The Bible is the Godly foundation of American culture and civilization. That’s why the most powerful man on earth, the President of the United States, swears an oath upon it to uphold the foundation of the greatest nation in human history.
Additionally, since man is not able to uphold either God nor his Word your statement makes absolutely no sense at all.
The notion that man could uphold the Bible is nonsense.
It’s amazing that we are talking so much about something that only 1% of the public thinks is a significant issue in this election. Economy? Jobs? Shrinking workforce? Bueller?
@GodlessLiberal - The issue is not that Obama is failing to enforce Biblical values on a secular nation. I certainly don’t have a problem with that. What I do have a problem with is the way he misrepresents what the Bible says to support his secular agenda.
Three years ago, after more than nine years of being with my (same sex) partner, we were married in Iowa. The tide is turning, and the younger generation overwhelmingly sees no problem with same-sex marriage. President Obama’s “evolving position” mirrors what is happening for folks nationwide. This quote in an article about the announcement sums it up:
“Mo Birkel, 70, a retired custodian from nearby Papillion, Neb., when asked about gay marriage: ‘I can’t say if I’m for it or against it, because I don’t know what my grandkids will be.’”
In another decade, we’re going to look back on this issue in the same way we did interracial marriage, and feel quite a bit of shame at how backwards and intolerant we were as a nation. (Of course, I suspect there are plenty of folks in North Carolina and 29 other states who think that interracial marriage weakens the institution of marriage, too!)
who cares if he “misuses” the Bible? it’s just a book, no different from any other religious text. and he wouldn’t be the first political leader to do so.
@PrisonerxOfxLove - The other candidates aren’t even on the map and won’t be in a million years. Republican candidates for gay rights, just asecond allow me to puke, republican candidates haven’t done anything. Obama is the man. He is the best of the best ♀♥♀
Yes. He’s doing it for his own political agenda. As I told a teen on fb, there is always a lot of support for the gays who want same sex marriage, but if a Christian says anything against it, they are being judgemental, bigots, blah, blah, blah. I (we) are just as entitled to support our own standards of living (which is the Bible) as are anyone else. Once again, Obama has shown his true character. Sad.
@stephensmustang - You are entitled to support your own standard of living, but unless you are gay, its none of your business if your gay neighbors want to get married. They aren’t all up in your grill about being married. If you are gay, then I think that you should uphold your standards of living by not getting married. And thats all that should be said on the matter.
I am for gay marriage, and no, I do not believe Barack Obama is misusing the Bible. I am for what @GodlessLiberal - said. People forget that in the Bible, slaves were told to obey their masters. Slavery was abolished, and an amendment was added to the Constitution that all man is created equal. If people want to continue to take the Bible literally, why don’t they make it legal again to own slaves? What about the stoning of those who wear two different fabrics at the same time?
Second, marriage does not belong to the church or Christianity. People have been getting married before Christianity was established and outside of Christianity and religious institutions afterwards.
Third, this is the same as the civil rights movement during the 1960s when blacks, women, and minorities fought for the right to vote. They fought for the right to be treated as an equal. People are fighting for the LGBT to be treated equals as well.
Fourth, America was founded on deist principles, not Christian. The founding fathers stated that anyone is free to worship any God that they so desire. To state that America is a Christian nation will violate the First Amendment.
Fifth, referencing the Bible does not give anyone more authority over another. If it is up to anyone to judge, it would be God and no one else.
Sixth, even if people claim that homosexuality is a choice, what difference would it be if lawmakers ban Christians from getting married? Wouldn’t you fight for your right to get married regardless of what religion you practice, especially if it’s a religion you hold close to your heart?
Not what I wanted to hear from our president. On the other hand I don’t think it is up to me to make judgements on other people. It just seems that marriage is for one man and one women..
@love4meislove4U - Let’s just call Obama’s new program “Using Gays for Cash,” a bit cynical. He shamelessly divides Americans into groups, makes them angry and then uses the anger to raise money.
@Saridactyl - Um. Yes it is. Atheists’ attempt to abuse people into forgetting America’s past can’t work on people who have read the Declaration of Independence, the Mayflower Compact, the Northwest Ordinance of 1787, George Washington’s First Thanksgiving Proclaimation, George Washington’s Farewell Address, and so many, many more of the writing of the people who founded America.
Also, did you ever think how profound is America’s root in Christianity for their to be a tradition of swearing on the Bible, especially for government representatives?
Atheism is a religious whose fundamental dogma is denial of reality. Why would a thinking person want to throw in with a radical religious sect that forces people to deny what they can see with their own eyes?
America ceases to exist as founded if it is separated from God. God is integral to America being America.
@wildchildofthebluemoon - 1) I am confused as to why you feel it necessary to attack me for simply answering a question on a blog–one that is NOT even yours no less. 2) Anything that may come into law in the USA or my state is my business. 3) You don’t know diddlysquat about me. It just happens that I have extended family members and friends who are gay. Though they know how I feel about same sex marriage and that I don’t agree with their lifestyle based on the standard of living, by which I live, we still have a trusting, honest, caring relationship. We are able to calmly discuss even subjects about which we disagree without attacking or being mean spirited. 4) Attacking someone, verbally or otherwise, and/or being mean spirited doesn’t solve anything and certainly doesn’t help. Since I simply answered Randy’s question on his blog/post, you didn’t need to address me at all. Other people said similar things–that’s theirs and my right—to state our opinion/belief and answer the question without anyone bothering us.
@stephensmustang - yes, you are very confused. Feeling sorry for yourself. Have you ever been attacked for marying someone of the opposite sex?
@wildchildofthebluemoon - The government should not be in the business of rewriting the definition of marriage. PERIOD
@laytexduckie - You need to reread what he said about the bible and yes he is misusing it really bad.
@dingdongdingbat - Agreed – Marriage between a man and woman is the right way.
@PrisonerxOfxLove - True – America is a republic that was founded upon Christian principles. You’re so correct.
@stephensmustang - Liberals use attacks to bully their way because they can’t base anything on truth. It’s what the President is doing. He’s creating a class warfare and getting American’s attention off the economy. It sounds like inside information because it’s not concident that huge banks and companies are failing and falling.
@Randy7777 - That doesn’t make sense to me at all. Marriage is between two people, who love each other and want to spend the rest of their lives with one another. Not to mention that if you have a problem with two people of the same sex getting married because of any religious definitions of marriage, then you have a problem with me getting married because I am atheist. And you have no right to tell me what I can or cannot do, especially if it is just based on what a nonexistent being is telling you to do.
@stephensmustang - Because it is the first point you made, and encompasses other point that you also made, I’m only going to address one thing. I think you might have a misunderstanding of what blogging is, especially of the style in which a person openly asks a question. Blogs like this are about discussion, and there wouldn’t be a reply button if we weren’t supposed to discuss the matter at hand with one another. This blog is also public, so it is welcoming any opinion that the internet can put forth. Words to think about for the next time you comment on a blog.
@Randy7777 - Thanks Randy u am apparently the target d For whatever reason. Doesn’t change what I believe. I’m with u on Nobama and that the gov shouldn’t be rewriting the def of marriage
I am for gay marriage. I see no reason to condemn others for an act that hurts nobody. I’m no expert on the bible, and I haven’t heard Obama comment on the bible, so I have no idea if he misused it.
In my opinion, politicians are pretty much just the overpaid actors who pretend to run things and generally foul most of it up. Obama is probably just trying to get more money and more votes by trying to make himself more appealing to liberals. Considering HR 347, I have a feeling most will not fall for it anyway. And yes, I am in favor of gay marriage. If that’s what they want to do, let them, if you think its evil and horrid and disgusting, (which I don’t) then just be glad that they won’t be reproducing. If everyone would stop getting so offended with each other and not try to run other people’s lives, the world would be a lot better.
It’s clear that he’s now supporting same-sex marriage to advance his political agenda. Before he was elected, he originally had said that he considered marriage only between a man and a woman. Now he’s done a complete about-face. He’s even done this in spite of what the Defense of Marriage Act states about the federal government only recognizing marriage between a man and a woman. There may be a chance that Obama’s sudden “change of heart” will cost him the election. That would make me most happy.
@Randy7777 - Is “nothin” in terms of what? It terms of social attitudes and acceptance of them, interracial marriages and same-sex marriages have followed a similar trajectory.
@flapper_femme_fatale - Christianity assigns its own meaning to its holy scripture, not a Buddhist, not a Hindu and especially not an atheist.
An atheist declaring what the Bible means for Christians is as absurd as a Muslim declaring that atheism is actually Zoroastrianism.
Or like a first grade math student declaring Einsteins theory of relativity meaningless.
Each person assigns meaning to things for himself. So that means if the Bible means nothing to you, that is just something that is part of your own private universe.
Christianity is what it is, not what atheists say it is.
@christao408 - Homosexuality is sexual preference or proclivity and has nothing to do with race.
Human nature is not determined by sexual proclivity or gender.
All people regardless of gender or sexual practices are human beings.
So the comparison between homosexuality and race is simply a fabrication based on a falsehood.
@wildchildofthebluemoon - And… You have no right to force me in the definition of marriage being between a man and woman. And … the government should stay out of it.
@xsimplepleasuresx - That’s what liberals label someone that disagrees with same sex marriage – condemnation. I believe that is wrong and mean spirited. I don’t condemn anyone.
@jostle13 - Interesting points you bring up. I guess I’ll always be offended when our President misuses the Bible. If he did to the Koran what he did to the Bible – well lets just say being offended would be very minor.
@zionlover - He can do flip flops on issues and it’s called “evolving”. Let a republican flip flop and it’s called that.
@christao408 - I disagree with you on that. I guess we look through different lenses.
@PrisonerxOfxLove - Great point. It irrates me when the race card is played when it comes to sexual choices.
@Randy7777 - Homosexuals as a demographic are very well to do and very influential. They are not chattel slaves like black people were. So trying to compare the homosexual “struggle” with that of former black slaves is one ridiculous notion piled upon another.
Another fatal flaw in the gay argument is that marriage is a human right. Marriage is not a human right. In Western Christian culture marriage has a particular definition.
The gay attempt to change the definition of marriage is actually an attempt to destroy our Christian culture. Homosexuality is not a culture. So for them to plan and execute the destruction of our Christian culture simply is an abomination.
It’s a ruthless imposition of sexual practices that to Christians is immoral.
We don’t have to sit still for that or feel guilty about defending our Way of Life.
@PrisonerxOfxLove - You are so right. This may be the year that Christians stand up and shout the truth.
@PrisonerxOfxLove - My comparison of interracial and same sex marriage was not a comparison of race and sexual orientation, but rather a comparison of “mainstream” society’s acceptance of those types of marriage. There was a time – a long time – when mainstream society argued against interracial marriage using many of the same arguments used by those who are against same-sex marriage.
@PrisonerxOfxLove - Homosexuals “as a demographic” are well to do? Homosexuality exists in all segments of society – not just the well-to-do ones. There are poor gays as well as wealthy ones, homeless gays as well as ones who own property.
@Randy7777 - Oh, no doubt we do. That’s the nature of society – we all come from different perspectives. At least we have the opportunity to discuss our differences and to understand others’ perspectives.
@christao408 - Yes, and that’s why I like xanga. You always have interesting blogs. I know you’ld make a great neighbor. Have a wonderful day.
He needs to put a huge distance between himself and the religious nut jobs that now control the Republican party. Since the Republican is now nothing but a theocratic party fully in the Christian camp who seem to exist only for the purpose of bashing gay people, he has to make a stand. If religion looms large in this next election it is solely thanks to the Republican’s full embrace of the church over the State.
@Randy7777 - I believe the word “condemn” is a fair summary of what the bible says about homosexuality. If it is wrong and mean spirited as you stated, that doesn’t reflect on me.
