  • Obama

Way to go Mr. President!                                                                         I’ve been critcal on some of the things our President has done, so I want to be equally supportive on the things I see as good.  I’m happy of how he handled the Usama situation.  It’s good seeing President Obama at the different ceremonies right now. Some have said it’s like spiking the ball after a touch down but I don’t see it that way.  We need to broadcast justice.  I’m also happy that the Obama administration has chosen not to show the pictures of Usama.  We don’t need to see that.

What are some things you see as good about President Obama?

  • I appreciate how he is as a father to his children and his strong relationship with his wife. Both are very good characteristics in any person. Even though he and I are polar opposites on pretty much everything else, I give him kudos for that.

  • He is a good president.

  • @firetyger - That is so true. His family is a great model for America.

  • @nattata - Anything specific?

  • @Randy7777 - He seems to have no cowboy mentality like Bush.

  • @nattata - LOL – No cowboy in Obama.

  • I believe Barack Obama is a deep breath of fresh air compared with other politicians I have known. I voted for him. And I will be voting for him again.

  • Nothing unusual about that quality. I think most Presidents had that.

  • I don’t think he is very effective. Our country is so divided I really don’t think there is anybody that would be successful right now in bringing the country together. Oh, wait! Somebody who would take a stand against Corporate America pillaging and plundering with their manipulations of the law, buying and selling every single stinking politician from sea to shining sea not being satisfied until our country resembles a turn of the century Charles Dickens scene with the richest rich robber barons locked safely in their mansions while the rest of the population scratches out a meager living while breathing filthy air and drinking polluted water again. Yes, even he might be thinking….let them eat cake!

  • OOps! I don’t know what possessed me! You asked what was good about him. Well, his wife has a nice garden and cares about nutrition and she dresses nice. Grandma is at the White House taking care of the grandchildren. I really like that!

  • @Jewelbeetle - Thanks – Obama’s Mother is at the White House?

  • @onjerusalemhill - What specifically do you like about Obama?

  • I gave credit where it was due on this one, too. He did a lot of campaigning about getting out of Afghanistan (prematurely) and missing our chance for this moment. So I was actually surprised that he stepped up and followed through on this mission. It’s been, so far, the ONLY decision he’s made that I’ve liked. Well, he did have homebrewed beer at his Super Bowl party (though a staffer brewed it) and that’s pretty cool. But as my favorite GOP candidate said last night (Herman Cain): One right decision a great President doth not make!

On a broader note, I will agree with @firetyger -  that he does set a nice family model for the rest of the country. They should probably pick less controversial churches, though.

  • I think he is keeping our country together as much as possible but the President is only a figure head taking orders from others.

  • We may not need to see it, but I definitely want to see it. I can see it raising the terror threats though, so it’s definitely better this way.

  • @DirtyAndShaken - Yes – this was a great decision he made.

  • @tymedancer - Interesting – thanks

  • I think he is a good role model as a father and husband.
I like his upbeat, hopeful, encouraging words. To me those are characteristic of a good leader.
I always keep in mind the limited power a president has. About all a president can do is become involved in wars and issue executive orders.
Most the things people complain about Obama doing were done by the Congress not by Obama at all.

  • I agree with the photos. Some people just don’t really understand the situations we can get into if such things are released.

  • As I see it Obama inherited alot of “stuff” to put it lightly, from one of the worst Presidents we’ve had in the past 50 years. And that President knows that classification, simply because he does very little or no public speaking events. In fact, Obama invited him to the 9/11 ceremony last week. Bush declined.the invitation. And as I saw it and many, he should of been there. Hopefully he will be there come September.

Having said all that, I think Obama has done a great job stablizing our economy and trying to implement his healthcare plan. People don’t realize the importance of this because Republicans and Tea Party Activists have done a great job of garbaging it. If we look at it, its gives people who can’t afford health insurance to have it. It lowers the cost of insurance. Just this year alone our company paid 200.000 dollars more in insurance for our employees. Once this is implemented, if it ever is, there would be a cap place to avoid the ripoffs from insurance companies. Insurace companies as we speak are flooding money and lobbyist into Washington to continue the fear tactic so this new law is appealed and never makes it to its full flourishment.

Obama has tried to reform immigration and specically the Dream Act. Which allows illegal children who have grown up here, gotten an education and feel more American than anything else to obtain legal status. Republicans shot this down. And Obama made it clear in an open mike comment just last week…. That over his dead body would he allow Republicans to cut medicaid or medicare. Remember now, Republicans since Roosevelt always thought Medicare was a dumbass idea. People should stop living the moment and realize that all of us will become old one day and we will need health care help. It will suck big time if that responsability is turn over to private insurance companies. Something all people should wakeup and realize.

Other than that, we have an intellectual in the White House who doesn’t have a cowboy attitude and a man who won a Noble Peace Prize for opening up to the world and trying to mend Arab relations.

  • @C_L_O_G - Talking about him being upbeat:  I watched a special last night about the entire operation.  When he was dealing with his birth certificate (I did not agree with Trump at all.) he was dealing with Usama.  He was very collective and may I might add very political savy.  I think it was a caculated move on Obama’s part to release the birth certificate when he did.  Now Americans know what “more important” things we need to be concentrating on.  I’m impressed.

  • @laytexduckie - Yes – the photos should not be released.

  • His mother-in-law. His mother is dead.

  • Trumps call for his birth certificate to me was akin to demanding to see a negro’s slave papers. It was appalling.

  • @Jewelbeetle -  I believe it was wrong but it wasn’t racial

  • @The_Eyes_Of_A_Painter - I was taught in the Navy to be responsbile for your own “watch” or tour of duty.  When a Captain reported for ship duty, he signed to take responsibility for the ship.  It was his now.  He didn’t blame a former Captain for anything.  We could argue that Reagan inherited a mess from Carter or Bush from Clinton.  But I never heard either of those Presidents blame the precedeing President.
Bush has stayed true to his committment to remain out of the spotlight during his post-presidency. I respect that. I appreciate President Obama in extending a welcome to President Bush to attend.  I have a lot of respect for Obama for doing that.  (For the record my health care costs have sky rocketed since Obamacare has gone into affect.  It was going up before that but it really went up a few months ago.)       LOL – That is so true Obama is not a “cowboy” type.  I love the style of his speeches.  Reminds me of Jay Leno shows.  Obama Kicks a door down after a speech; Bush walks into a locked door after a speech.  -so funny.

  • I like his off-the-cuff remarks.

  • There are many things I like about Obama. Others have named some of them. What I’ve liked best about him is his ability to communicate. This is an ability that leaders need to have. When times are tough, as they were when I was born (1937) and continued to be as I was a child, it was good to have a president who could communicate well with us. FDR’s “Fireside Chats” were very important to keeping our morale up. We needed it then, and we need it now as I think we are facing even more difficult times and situations all at once than we ever have. I appreciate Obama’s theme of hope and his encouraging words, while at the same time, he acknowledges the severity of problems. No president, or anyone else, is perfect, however. Nonetheless, I think he’s doing the best he can under the circumstances. ~~Blessings ‘n Cheers

  • @DirtyAndShaken – I agree that attending a racist church was a bad idea.
